I have been working at RedPrairie full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

RedPrairie is a wonderful company to work for. They have a relaxed environment and NO CUBICLES, but instead open desk areas. There hours are flexible and this means that you can have a great work/life balance. Everyone that I have met thus far is so inviting, welcoming, and friendly. From the point you walk into the doors you feel like you are part of a team.

    Cons

Meetings-- everyday, twice a day, sometimes all day. Its very meeting heavy and somehow it still means that there is a lack of communication between departments when trying to keep products consistent.

I worked at RedPrairie full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good people. benefits are good.

    Cons

No Career planning or advancement. HR doesn't seem to know anything that happens day to day. Training is really horrible, too high of a overview. In-house programming, Skills are not really transferable somewhere else. Pay is really low for whats out there in the market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to spend more time working on career paths / workers goals and make it happen this includes HR which none of them seem not to have clue. Too many managers work way too many customers to deal with the engineers under them doing the work. Management lacks because of this. A plan should be put in place to get the work done instead of the words just get it done and the employees under them work frantically to get the work done.

I have been working at RedPrairie full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Work from home and travel (could go either way). When visiting the office, the people in the office seemed to be friendly.

    Cons

Very, very steep learning curve, high volume of high pressure work, and less-than-favorable learning environment.

My story: After 8 days of initial training, I was on my own to learn a huge, complex software suite. Not to mention, the trainer admitted that the things we learned in those 8 days were rarely in use anymore and the company had mostly moved to a newer way of doing things. Opportunities for training rarely came along after that. After 2 weeks of self teaching, I was sent off to a client's location with a less than helpful partner, expected to know the software and contribute to billable hours. Managers tell you to talk to coworkers to get answers, but those coworkers are often too busy to give any legitimate help.

Management was ever-changing and rarely willing to help.

Compensation was low compared to other companies.

Because of the unique software suite, the experience you gain at RP is not very applicable to other, future positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage. Low level managers are out of touch with their team. Learning environment is almost non existent.

    Cons

Extremely poor management, not rewarding those we deserve it but rewarding purely on billable hours which can be easily manipulated

I have been working at RedPrairie

    Pros

As a support tech, many challenges as well as learning opportunity abounds. The working atmosphere is conducive to learning, growing and expanding your skillset if you so choose to.

    Cons

A career map / direction may be in need. The fact that there is so many directions one can go from this department complicates and at times delays career advancement within the company (other departments).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to encourage internal promotions to leadership positions rather than hire outside the company. If an experienced employee who seems to have mastered his/her position and is the point of contact for many co-workers in other departments as that 'go to' person, find a way to bring them to a leadership position. Sometimes an employee becomes so 'valuable' within a department, that it hinders their ability to change jobs. So much so that looking outside the company is a vaible option for growth.
