    Pros

Working with people with a sense of humor so you can have fun doing stuff you might otherwise find boring. It becomes real easy in retail jobs like these to form bonds and friendships with the people you work with, and if you can find people with similar interests to you you will have a great time doing work.

    Cons

Working for people without a sense of humor is the worst part, sometimes managers are patronizing or full of themselves. Scheduling was never consistent and you would get random times and hours sometimes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so uptight, offer more opportunities for promotions.

    Pros

The company provided a great opportunity to gain experience in management. Most managers were in their early twenties, which is the perfect time to start learning leadership and resource management skills.

    Cons

There is no promotion potential unless you would like to make a career out of theatre management. Also, working all weekends and on holidays is not for everyone.

Former Employee - Floor Staff (Box Office Cashier, Concessions, and Usher) in Hazle Township, PA

    Pros

This was a decent first time job. This is a good job for high school students, college students, business interns, and retirees. Pros include a fun atmosphere, free movies, and the acquisition of basic job skills.

    Cons

Very low pay, minimum wage. Assistant managers do not make that much more. Some district managers play favorites, allowing corruption to go unchallenged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember, you get the quality of worker that you pay for.

Former Employee - Team Member in Tigard, OR

    Pros

Free tickets, discounts on concessions, friendly co-workers, time passes quickly, variations on what you do depending on whether you're working concessions or ushering or standing door, lots of opportunities to interact with customers, some managers were really fun and nice

    Cons

Difficult to make a mistake or admit you don't know something because everything is so tightly run, some of the managers were less than friendly, closing the theater is a detailed, tedious, and late-night process

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more of a grace period for new hires-- feels as though you're just thrown right into it without much preparation

Former Employee - Floor Staff (Box Office Cashier, Concessions, and Usher) in Lake Wales, FL

    Pros

Free movies, flexible schedule, time off as long as it isn't around the holidays.

    Cons

You have to work holidays because it's the busiest time for movies. The pay is minimum wage and that certainly isn't enough through college. Managers don't make much either and most of the managers were only part time. There was a lack of continuity in management.

    Pros

There were always hours to work, tight on money then it was never a task a get more hours from another employee,

    Cons

Being over worked, and having to stand in the same position all day when tearing tickets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even up the schedule a bit more

Former Employee - Floor Staff (Box Office Cashier, Concessions, and Usher) in Port Charlotte, FL

    Pros

Great first job especially for a high school or college student.
Flexible scheduling for those in school or those who work multiple jobs.
Fun environment with fun co-workers and managers.
Free movies, (sometimes) popcorn and drinks, and half off all food items!

    Cons

No promoting unless you have a degree and want to be a manager.
    No medical benefits.
Minimum wage for medium to hard, fast-paced, work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With the high prices charged for admission and concessions, use some of that extra money to compensate your employees who work hard in the trenches to keep the theaters running.
