    Pros

Excellent benefits. Great facilities. Corporate environment in terms of performance appraisals and incentives. Great access to learning and development training courses.

    Cons

Difficult to rise ranks if you are younger. There is a hierarchy that must be followed - a lot of people that have been there for a long time believe in "earn your stripes" and promote based on number of years of experience rather than merit.

I worked at Region of Peel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Most departments have flex schedule for every second of third Friday off, all year round. - Excellent benefits and vacation schedule - Main offices with plenty of parking and near transit - Likes to hire internally - Hugely supportive of internal contract positions and learning - Ideal situation for people who thrive in structure with strict adherence to rules

    Cons

    - Most programs have highly structured environments with little flexibility - Many situations tend toward micro management - Mediocre pay - well below private sector

    Pros

Great pay, good benefits, flexible work hours available. Most immediate supervisors are fair and know their job. Immediate team mates are great to work with.

    Cons

Change takes a long time because the Region is so huge and too many are effected by one decisions and so has to go through so many levels. Departments are disconnected. Some decisions made are hard to understand.

    Advice to Management

Focus on keeping your staff happy. Be more transparent.
