I worked at Region of Peel

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Great facilities. Corporate environment in terms of performance appraisals and incentives. Great access to learning and development training courses.

    Cons

Difficult to rise ranks if you are younger. There is a hierarchy that must be followed - a lot of people that have been there for a long time believe in "earn your stripes" and promote based on number of years of experience rather than merit.

    Cons

If you are a temp or contract it's so difficult to get a permanent job when you have more than enough experience for the jobs and you aren't even given the opportunity to interview for the position, it's all about you Brown nosing it.

I worked at Region of Peel as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Limited growth opportunities if you do not brown-nose.

    Cons

Contract staff in a state of perpetual limbo- you will feel like a second class citizen despite the Regional values that are constantly extolled. Some colleagues have been on contact for too long (5+ years).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to limit contract staff or convert them to full-time.
More transparency in the hiring process.

I have been working at Region of Peel part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

the pay and the benefits are great! no complaints!

    Cons

very repetitive work in my specific position so leaves zero room for creativity.
they hire who they know even though they post their positions, chances are they have contacted who they want to fill the role, positions are posted because that is policy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go around and meet your employees, run annual x-mas parties, promote fairness and equity all throughout

I have been working at Region of Peel full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay, good benefits, flexible work hours available. Most immediate supervisors are fair and know their job. Immediate team mates are great to work with.

    Cons

Change takes a long time because the Region is so huge and too many are effected by one decisions and so has to go through so many levels. Departments are disconnected. Some decisions made are hard to understand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on keeping your staff happy. Be more transparent.
