    Pros

    Learned about the banking industry

    Cons

Hours were not flexible, management was not up to par, a lot of hostility between coworkers who have been there a very long time and new hires, everything revolved around sales and not about customer service

    Advice to Management

focus on customer service and providing a great experience for everyone versus just trying to sell products to people who don't need them.

    Pros

Loved my co-workers and the regular customers
The hours were amazing as was the holidays (with pay)

    Cons

The CONSTANT coaching sessions were overwhelming. Not only did you have one once a month with your managers but they would coach you at least three times a week in the teller line. I get that coaching is a great thing but it became a little constant and overwhelming. They also HEAVILY pushed referrals on you. Once I finally met my referral goal the pay out was so small (only about a $100). It made it not worth forcing everyone that came in to sit down with a personal banker.

    Advice to Management

Stop forcing us to ask EVERY customer for a referral. Some did not need anything else from us and it reflected poorly on our customer service.

    Pros

Support amongst "lower level" employees is strong, HR director in central IL is good

    Cons

Management in central IL is TERRIBLE. There has been so much turn over that customers are complaining and leaving the bank. When I was interviewed, I was given promises from management (not HR, who did not know about these promises) regarding promotion opportunities, which were a complete lie. Company policies are not adhered to 100% in all branches. Different branches have different policies. If you get caught not following one policy, even if everyone else in your branch does the same thing, you become the scapegoat.

Sales management is vindictive, retaliatory, controlling and demeaning. Management speaks to employees as if they are ignorant, uneducated individuals. Employees are underpaid for their tenure and hard work.

Employees are asked to step up and take on more responsibility than is their job, with no thank you or merit pay increase. Employees are abused in that sense.

Retirement benefits are good. Medical benefits are not. They cover very little. As does dental. there is a year waiting period for certain services.

If you aren't opening accounts or dealing with complaints, the company wants you to cross sell as much as possible and provides leads lists. Basically you wind up milking customers for all they are worth and annoying them. Almost like a telemarketer.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to take a look at the significant increase in employee turnover since new sales managers were hired. Employee morale is incredibly low. Don't just look at sales numbers and revenue for the bank. Look at how your employees feel regarding appreciation, and company support-its the employees who will go above and beyond to satisfy customers, which will increase bank revenue more significantly and permanently.
