I have been working at Reliance Steel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone treats each other like family and the benefits are pretty good. Room for advancement since this is a Fortune 300 company. Even though this is a traditional/conservative metals company, there is a fair amount of diversity in terms of gender, race, and sexual orientation. Many locations worldwide so it's great if you're in a position that lets you travel.

    Cons

Highly political environment, especially when you consider how so many people around you are connected to those higher up. Some of the things that bother employees is how conservative the company is with its finances - especially when it comes to travel and expenses. This goes a long way in bringing employee morale down a few notches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee morale isn't the best and Reliance is a company that makes over $8 billion a year, it wouldn't hurt to give employees incentives so that the family-oriented work environment continues to motivate them to stay on and grow.

    Pros

Good work/life balance. They don't really push hard for numbers or anything, so pro or not depending on how you look at it. Everybody there is very nice, good people.

    Cons

No room for growth or advancement internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push harder for expansion for new jobs from within.

    Pros

ESOP... Adds up very quickly on top of your 401K. Great Medical, Fair Salary, Very Fair commisions. Very low employee turnover. Corporate Management one of the best. They understand the business. They understand how to make money. Business model works and it shows every earning report every quarter. Every Reliance business center is held accountable to earnings...

    Cons

Very litte con's. Doing business in California is extremely difficult due to the Democratic knuckleheads ruining this state.... Manufacturing is dying in California.

    I worked at Reliance Steel

    Pros

Co-workers are usually pretty nice. Management seems to care about the employees. Like many other small companies people are generally pretty friendly.

    Cons

Not a really hard driven culture. People are pretty relaxed and happy with there they are, so there's not a lot of push to succeed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it's a good place to work for, especially in the specific industry they operate in. No real problems.
