I have been working at Renesas Electronics America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The health benefits and 401K plan are fantastic.

    Cons

Employees are expected to work a minimum 10 hour day regardless of job title. Being available via phone at all times is also expected. For satellite offices the hours can be day or night. The workload is extremely heavy and people are pushed to the extreme in the name of doing more with less. People rarely take vacation time and when they do they spend a large portion of it working.

    Advice to Management

People need to be treated like a valuable asset. If you push people until they break then all you will be left with is broken people.

Not bad, but no a fun place to work (I've had better).

More of a sales office rather than an engineering facility.

Continue for restructuring the company to be profitable and it affects the employment.

Please keep good experienced and talented people by careful screening process.

I have been working at Renesas Electronics America full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, ethical company and management. Excellent product quality, extensive company resources. Large company.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic culture with many political players focusing more on politics than accomplishments.

    Advice to Management

Streamline operational flow, and remove the redundant positions created by past mergers.

I worked at Renesas Electronics America full-time

    Pros

Dedicated and capable employees at all levels. That along with strong IP portfolio/value should provide the base to maintain/build MCU and SOC businesses.

    Cons

Company is having difficultly overcoming business challenges especially after the Renesas-NEC merger and also recovering from the earthquake and impact it had on the customer base.

    Advice to Management

Get out and talk to employees at all levels to get a better understanding how to best optimize the organization.

I worked at Renesas Electronics America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    People were friendly and supportive

    Cons

Top Management were in-experience, many have VP titles and were not qualified.

    Advice to Management

The organization needs to be leaner. Salaries needs to be cut by 30% starting with the CEO to the directors levels and enhance the bonus.

I worked at Renesas Electronics America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great technology in focus products. Top market share in focus products. Low power technology, flash memory, CPU cores and bus architecture expertise. Core business in Japan is very strong and will help outlast downturns in global economy. Excellent responsiveness to disastrous earthquake that shut down fabs and supply chain.

    Cons

Poor business sense in some cases. Continuous in-fighting due to previous mergers of Mitsubishi, Hitachi, NEC. Lack of balance in decision making among senior management. Lack of technical infrastructure that supports customers broadly. Continuous change of management style including strange edicts that seem authoritarian.

    Advice to Management

Change course. The water cooler talk doesn't seem to line up with the news headlines. Focus on revenue generating customers.

I worked at Renesas Electronics America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay was above average, though I think that had a lot to do with the cons.

    Cons

Senior management places no value on being pleasant, kind, helpful, or most other positive virtues as long as numbers are met. Consequently sociopaths congregate here since they won't get in trouble.

    Advice to Management

Retention problems suggest poor managers. This company doesn't have warning signs, it has flares and fireworks.
