Logic Design Engineer

Logic Design Engineer (Current Employee)
Tokyo (Japan)

I have been working at Renesas Electronics full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSlightly nice work environment with people willing to cooperate. There could be more a lot of challenging and interesting things to do for the younger employees as the downsizing continues.

ConsChanges in management and company structures. You never know when the large layoffs and restructuring will finally come to an end.

Advice to Senior ManagementStrong marketing and leadership are necessary. They've got to understand no long-term benefit would come unless they take risks although it never means that they could do whatever they want.

Cons- The executives have no management ability, hopelessly.
- There are many products that don't have a power of pricing, especially the automobile field.

Excellent engineering talent held back by slow-moving management

Product Engineer (Former Employee)
Tokyo (Japan)

I worked at Renesas Electronics full-time

Pros- Strong product portfolio
- A large number of very talented engineers who have a great deal of know-how to pass down to junior employees
- Nice company culture, generally good atmosphere

Cons- Too much bureaucracy, the lack of strong leadership, consensus-based decision-making, and risk-averse management styles hold the company back from achieving its full potential
- Inability to make the really tough decisions in recent years continues to derail efforts to return to profitability

Advice to Senior ManagementTo survive in a global economy Renesas needs to become much more aggressive and agile.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Renesas electronics Singapore Pte Ltd Review

Senior Executive (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Renesas Electronics full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFriendly Co-colleagues. Generally less pressure environment minus the politics

ConsPoor management with no vision and leadership. Most work are passed down to ground staff as there are more general managers and senior managers than engineers. High turnover. No career prospect. Low pay and poor remuneration. Poor benefits. Promotion increment does not commensurate with increase workload. Annual increment at less than 3%. Internal power struggle and politics among management as company go through numerous rounds of merger. Management does not work in corporate interest to improve business but rather overly engaged in ousting one another even if the conflicts resulted in business loss. High risk as company restructure once every six months. Poor leadership as the same business goals and plans have been reiterated years after years.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemove redundancy in higher management as there are far too many general and senior managers. Unite and work in common interest for the corporate. Improve leadership, do proper business planning, be transparent in promotion evaluation, eliminate favourism, improve engineering capabilities, commit more time to source for business rather than doing domestic coverup with presentations and reports.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
