I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits Promote from within Job security Fast paced They have good benefits, hours are guaranteed. They do promote from within.

    Cons

Long hours Demanding management Low pay They will work you to the bone. Pay is very low for this type of work. They pay a lot less than they did 10-15 years ago, but are as profitable as ever. You will only see any real money at the district manager level (around $70k). Granted it used to be a lot more.

    Advice to Management

People don't mind doing this type of work for the proper compensation. Raise pay!

    Pros

The pay is good and their is a family atmosphere within most stores.

    Cons

Actual family time is few and far between working from 9-8 working 50 hours a week or more and if there was overtime beyond 50 hours you were told you had to take longer lunches to get rid of it

    Advice to Management

Lighten up threats don't work only drive good people away

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

There literally are no good reason to work for this company. I wasted every minute of the 6 years I spent with them. Were it not for the lessons on how not to treat people, how not to treat employees and how not to be the slime of the earth I would have learned nothing of value in 6 years

    Cons

There is no work life balance, they demand you put RAC first in all your decisions. Work hours are draconian, demanding 48 hours a week, 5 days a week, every Friday, Saturday and Monday, except on the rare occasions a holiday happens, but even then they punish you by cramming 45 hours of work into 4 days instead of 5. The actual job is an endless cycle of things you are told you failed at. Sales are up you get told you aren't collecting enough, collection numbers are good you get told you aren't selling enough. I could go on for days about the company itself and never mention the clients and your interactions with them are about 50% mediocre and the other 50% is either disgusting or confrontational.

    Advice to Management

Tell your staff to quit and go find jobs that won't ruin their lives. Then realize that you exist as a pawn of a company that is a social vampire and then quit yourself. Id rate this company negative stars if the site let me.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Rent-A-Center (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Learning to drive a truck.

    Cons

Enjoyed trashing the truck. Due to overloading customers with rental agreements, how can anyone ever own anything they rent. Management sites behind a desk counting their money and monthly bonuses. While you break your back deliver side by Side refrigerators to the 4th floor nose bleed section of the projects by your self with nothing but a cell phone and a handtruck. Speaking of cellphones, management uses the your personal cellphone like an invisible ball and chain. God forbid you don,t pick up the phone while your hands a full of field sheets and your looking for a skip account while your 45 past due is giving you a short payment. This job is for the desperate.this is a last resort job. You will hate every morning you wake up.

    Advice to Management

Advise to new hires. If your smart and get away with not signing the waiver that says they have a right to fire you for any reason (and most likely will). Don't sign this document. You give up all legal representation and must resort to arbitration. This document allows rent a center to do to you anything they want and get away with it. Force you to work overtime, force you to work at a store 50-100 miles from your home when theirsone 5 min away like McDonald's. Conspire with other yes man employees to cover up for fraud and overcharging customers. Discriminate against your race or gender or sexual preference, age, religion. They have the ok because you signed the agreement to arbitration.
