I have been working at Republic Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Paid weekly, competitive salary, average benefits

    Cons

60 plus hour work weeks, very unorganized, old union mentality, bad equipment, always borrowing trucks from other terminals just to complete routes. Management is like Mafia, everything is hush hush and behind closed doors. Don't believe reviews saying people love their job, especially mechanics or drivers. Miserable place to work, never see wife or kids, money isn't that good after you break down 3 or 4 times per week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate needs to clean house. Republic bought out Allied Waste and retained same management and mindset which all manager there came from a Uniform Company so definitely a good ole boy environment .

    Pros

None. Oh wait, you can throw your garbage away for free.

    Cons

Management is poor. Lack of tools to do the job correctly. Computer systems are beyond archaic and don't forget that the customer will get a 20% rate adjustment every 8 months

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

    my paycheck did not bounce

    Cons

Start with the mice running through the building on an almost daily basis, add a lack of training materials, co-workers existing in a world of rewards to the best back-stabber, a manager who loudly discusses which employees need to be fired on phone calls with other managers 5 feet away from you, and an environment of inter-departmental non-cooperation as the rule, price breaks to area politicos, and what's not to love and embrace about this well-oiled machine of a branch office? One of my co-workers was told not to even consider a promotional opportunity even though this person was more than qualified - not even an interview or a review of skill set. They just did not want to bother with the possibility of having to fill the open position, and it is fun for middle management to squash the hopes and dreams of those who report to them. A driver who is extremely ambitious, and always volunteers for travel assignments, overtime, pretty much anything the company asks from him has been trying to earn a promotion for years and has been getting stonewalled. This man is eminently talented and qualified and shows great leadership, and his management just brushes his requests away. The human resources person has no answers to questions, refers you back to your manager instead of checking with her department. My "orientation" on my first day consisted of her handing me a large stack of papers and telling me to read them. That's it. Oh, wait, she asked me for help with a spreadsheet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be surprised when an audit comes, maybe from the Department of Labor, maybe from some other state or federal department. The discrepancies in treatment from one employee to the next, from one customer to the next will not go unnoticed forever.

I worked at Republic Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overtime opportunities for hourly help to make up for lack of pay. Salary position, I have nothing. This company could be good to work for, but needs a management overhaul.

    Cons

Overtime is mandatory. Count on a 10 hour day, minimum. This makes up the lack of hourly pay. If you are salary, count on 10 - 14 hour days, for a less hourly wage than your help receives. This company is under staffed and under budgeted. The equipment is less than desirable to operate. This company is reactive while trying to convince employees they are proactive. While I was there, the employee door was a revolving door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Overhaul middle management.

    Pros

Salary... Can't beat a good paycheck with overtime. Office is helpful and teamwork between coworkers is great.

    Cons

Management is the worst. Don't disagree with a manager or dangerous practices because your opinion isn't valued. There's a lot of disagreement in the office. The flux in personnel says a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaders need to be trained in how to interact with employees with respect. Follow company standards, don't just preach. Pay as much as your competition and you might keep more employees from leaving. Don't force overtime, Plan Ahead!

have nothing good to say. i get a check every week. that's about it.

    Cons

They dim your light here, instead of making it shine brighter. they smash that light bulb on the floor and step all over it to make sure that it will NEVER try to light again.
i have applied to multiple positions within the company and each and every time, I do not get it. No one explains why, nor the tell you what you can do to qualify.
