Good, fast-paced and relaxed at times

Field Defence Commander (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Republic of Singapore Air Force full-time for more than a year

ProsThought provoking and challenging on daily basis, many KPIs to hit and ensure that bosses' requirements are met.

ConsUniformed requirement, many mandatory and stringent rules as with in any army. Might have to be on shift duties that can be hard to get used to

One word: stagnation

Regular Specialist (Current Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I have been working at Republic of Singapore Air Force full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIf you're looking for a stable job, this is it. Even (especially?) if you start at the very bottom without a diploma or a degree, if you stick to the job and abide by the rules, you'll rise eventually. It's hard to be outright fired for incompetence.

ConsStagnation, stagnation, stagnation, especially if you're not an officer, and especially especially if you're not a scholar. Expect to do the same things year in, year out, with minimal overall variation.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhile the RSAF is a military organization and as such needs a military culture to successfully operate, a part of commandership is about listening, watching and reacting to problems on the ground, no matter how "below my level" you may deem it to be. A lot of problems just get swept under the carpet because of this.

Good training ground for young engineers

Air Engineering Officer (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Republic of Singapore Air Force full-time for more than 5 years

ProsRSAF is generous with training opportunities to develop staff both technically and with soft skills. Pay is competitive compared to commercial aviation industry.

ConsToo many secondary appointments to fulfill apart from primary aircraft engineering work. Treatment between scholars and non-scholars is also evident. Dwindling manpower to handle same amount of work.

Advice to Senior ManagementMotivate and reward your talents.
