    Pros

Stable and friendly, with large opportunities for self-development. Good fringe benefits

Lower wages than in the private sector, aggravated by an increment stop for an indefinite length of time.

I have been working at Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene

    Pros

This a state facility that supports basic scientific research. Great scientific colleagues makes for stimulating atmosphere and many opportunities for collaboration on research.

    Cons

As a state facility that supports scientific research there is no functionality between the administrative staff and research staff. Very inefficient, as one might expect for a state facility. Spent hundreds of hours dealing with administrative hiccups that would be dealt with properly in an eye-blink at any for-profit organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People need to get their paychecks on time. Researchers need their NIH grants administered properly. The state should not pay administrative personel (union) to do essentially nothing.

    Pros

-There is always a very academic environment where you can learn new things.

    Cons

It depends on the department you work for.
    There is no union
Management is not aware or doesn't keep good control of the way Principal Investigators handle/treat their teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would really like more support for Human Resources, they are not aware of many things that happen there.
