I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Exposure to different aspects of the company, strong learning and development culture, and great work-life balance. You are invited to actively participate in meetings. Work load and difficulty of assignments increase according to your engagement and willingness to go above and beyond.

    Cons

During the off season (during the normal school year) you have to be proactive in order to get the exposure you want. Just showing up to work everyday and waiting for someone to hand you as assignment can sometimes leave you bored and waiting around on people to remember you.

The corporate culture was excellent, people were friendly and understanding. As an intern they strived to diversify me into other departments to gain a good experience.

I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Payed well made 20 dollars an hour as a Research Assistant. I was always paid on time and the workers were all very kind. As a contracted graduate student research assistant i can not speak too negatively on the company because my time as short and minimal interaction with the SUNYRF.

    Cons

None. It was an overall positive experience and I would work there again, if i had not graduated

I worked at Research Foundation of State University New York as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Being a temp, this is what I heard through the grapevine while working there.
Excellent pay ($16 - $30/hr), maternity leave, great PTO, great office environment, company values include helping out other businesses which reflect their own values in regards to their employees.
The biggest benefit by FAR is that they pay for your schooling at SUNY because they are directly affiliated with them.
They have regular meetings with their employees about company values and what they can do to be better. The president and vice-president are some of the nicest and respectable people you could meet.

    Cons

The ONLY complaint is that a few people in upper management can be a little demanding, passive aggressive, and stressed out but there is such a good network of great leaders that this is kept in check.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing. Keeping an open ear for your employees is the best thing you can do.

I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There is scope to grow, you get to learn a lot .The company is very well organised.
I also had the freedom to make a contribution without being scrutinized.

    Cons

Albany is not a great place. If you want a top level programming job, then there are not as many opportunities here.

I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Room for advancement, however all the managers know each other and are sometimes reluctant to let you go. Very flexible with schedule in most departments. Staff is very friendly and fun. Salary is comparable to most other industries.

    Cons

Many layers of management and takes forever to get anything approved. Change is not in their name and do not expect it. The RF hires many retired State workers as "favors" for future work to keep them in good graces with the State govt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch the staff better, the ones who do nothing seem to be able to convince mgt they do everything and all the worker bees know better.
