    Management problems.

    Employee (Former Employee)
    San Bruno, CA

ProsCompensation (if negotiated) and work environment.

    ConsExtremely irrational front line management.

Marketing is overselling what the next version of the product can do (too high of a learning curve for marketing customers) (too many limiting features) (too many bugs)

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to actually manage people. Treat employees as well as customers (is that too much acting for you all in one day?). Have an objective standardized review process with real numbers showing both positive and negative performance outcomes.

    Negotiate well upfront.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Bruno, CA

ProsResponsys is the current leader in their space and has a solid product to go to market with. They have a strong customer base and the market is growing rapidly. The pace is steady, but not overly burdensome and you have the opportunity to work with some phenomenal clients. The development is attempting to move to the cutting edge and if they succeed, it could be a great place to work.
The people that you will work with here are absolutely top notch.

ConsDid not receive an annual Cost of Living Adjustment and the review process is undefined. Movement within the organization is not common and the opportunity for career growth is virtually non-existent. They tend not to want to extend salaries for promotions when they actually do increase responsibilities. In addition, they don't seem to treat their employees with all that much respect, which is sad because they've actually been able to attract some great talent to that organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees better and with more respect.

    Great for beginners

    Customer Success Manager (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsA good place for someone starting in the online marketing industry.

ConsAt the time I worked there - the vision of the company was distracted by an inevitable acquisition. Hopefully, management will get more organized. The culture encourages omnipresence vs. balance.

Could be worse, but could be better.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsDowntown SF location is perfect, and Responsys really knows how to hire nice, hard-working and innovative people. For the most part, the team I work with is awesome. Good benefits, that continue to get even better.

ConsCompensation leaves something to be desired. Salaries really need to be well negotiated up front, because any raises after initial hiring will be the bare minimum. Some promotions are in "title only". Responsys is a growing company, and hires a lot of senior level people, which can leave its current employees feeling passed over. Work/Life balance can be out of whack, and salaried employees who consistently work more than 40 hours per week, are not always acknowledged for their hard work.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work on growing a great company, but don't forget about your longtime employees.

Working with brilliant and fun people. Senior management needs improvement

    Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Bruno, CA

Pros- Very talented, responsible and self-motivated colleagues
    - Everyone's approachable and help each other out, so collaboration is easy
    - Learn very applicable technical skills
    - Don't spend too much time maintaining legacy code. New projects are interesting, exciting and make use of good technologies
    - Pay is okay, and work/life balance is very good. Generally normal work hours
    - People are generally social and fun to hang out with. Social events don't feel like forced obligations

Cons- Senior management very slow to resolve problems for engineers. Engineering with subpar dev environment for 1+ yr
    - Management approach becoming less trustful of engineers just doing their jobs; more micromanagement
    - Benefits not as competitive and getting a bit worse, e.g. recently placed stricter conditions on mobile data plan reimbursement

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to retain and attract talents, listen to your people and trust them to do their work well, and improve your compensation and benefits.
