I worked at Retro Fitness part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly, comfortable environment to work in. Easy to sell memberships due to genuinely great pricing, and services offered. Flexible hours, multiple duties so tasks would not get too boring.

    Cons

Sometimes understaffed, thus making warm call recruiting quotas difficult to meet on certain busy days. At times, more demanded than pay compensated for

    Pros

We got a new manager this year and he's the reason it's a great place to work. He communicates with his staff, is encouraging and provides training.

    Cons

Same as any customer service position - dealing with customers can be challenging at times.

I worked at Retro Fitness part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun work atmosphere. Free membership to employees. Depending on owners.. Great family atmosphere. If you take care of them, they'll definitely take care of you. If you're looking for growth you simply need to say so because there ARE opportunities to go up in the company.

    Cons

No benefits. Members don't realize that cancellations aren't handled by the front desk and you will sometimes get backlash.

    Pros

Great company idea of full service gym at a low cost.

    Cons

Individually owned. Corporate does not regulate franchises well. Some do not follow corporate ideals. Company run by 20 somethings who are not professional. Eric Casaburi gives bonuses for the wrong things. He does not know what is going on in his company.

    Advice to Management

Owners need to pay employees better and focus on customer service and keeping employees.

    Pros

Employee discounts. Free memberships to employees.

    Cons

Hard to get a promotion or to get a raise. They will make you work harder just to add 15 cents to your paycheck.

    Advice to Management

Don't favor lazy workers just because they have been there the longest. Don't hire people just for their looks.

I have been working at Retro Fitness full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For the most part it is an easy non stressful job. The staff is great, the trainers are great, and the guest are wonderful as well.

    Cons

Unfortunately Retro is a franchise. The management styles, vary from each location - based on the owner. The retro I am currently with is one of the top in sales. They are very sales driven- and teach a great sales style. Unfortunately the owner spends more time focusing on fault than fixes. He also rarely says anything constructive- just negative. He is a great salesman- but not a leader. His business is suffering because no one feels free to be open about ideas. Employee turn over is extremely high- because anyone who has the choice would rather not work for him.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management: take your experience and leave. My advise to the owner: learn to be a leader- not a boss. Learn to teach rather than tell. If your helpful and constructive. People will want to work for you. Smart people, educated people, intelligent business minded people. If you continue down the road you are on- you will end up with disgruntled, bottom of the barrel employees and loose profits.
