I have been working at Retro Fitness part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has a great culture. Employees are fun, energetic and enjoy fitness. Employees get a free gym membership and the hours are flexible. This is a great place to work as a part-time second job or as a part-time job while in school.

    Cons

While the culture is enjoyable there is little to no opportunities for advancement. Turnover is high and many individuals are not properly trained on how to preform daily tasks. The salary is very low, and due to the low salary many do not take the job as serious as they should.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers should look to motivate employees with more opportunities for development and career advancement. Retro would work well with a managerial track program for dedicated student employees.

I have been working at Retro Fitness part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Free membership. Flexible schedule. That's it.

    Cons

No benifits at all. No promotions even if you've been with the company for over 2 years... Why don't you promote within the business?

Understand that there are huge favors in people. No matter how much hard work it won't pay off...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire within your company. If you want success for this company pay attention to your employees.

I worked at Retro Fitness part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

tanning, daycare, classes, lots of machines, many new things like boxing and trx equpment and kettlebells.

    Cons

cold environment, cattiness, drama, poor salary, mis- management, unlawful firing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pay roll is terrible and they scam people into buying 1 year contracts and not informing them that there is a lengthy cancellation process and that you still have to pay to cancel well after the year contract. My advice is to check out who is owning and operating the franchises. The East Meadow NY location has got to be one of the most poorly managed Retro in the franchise. Managers are catty, immature, lazy and abusive to staff. They curse at customers and demean them as well as yell at them if they try to cancel .

    I worked at Retro Fitness

    Pros

friendly atmosphere, really nice members, the majority of the staff are great and helpful, it's a fun and easy job.

    Cons

cheap business, if you make a complaint you get threatened to have your hours cut back or get replaced. Management doesn't take your complaints or concerns seriously. I witnessed favoritism and experienced sexism at this job. Oh and if you're sick "you" are told to find someone to cover for you, if you can't then you're told to still come in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If things don't change and if you don't start taking employees and customers seriously then I don't see this business lasting that long.
