    Great learning experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsThe people here were generally very nice and very smart. They were happy to teach you whatever they knew The standards for job competency are high and you will be forced to develop excellent technical skills if you want to keep yours. The products are very nice and amazingly creative considering that they do not have alot of money to invest in the business. If you are not a hard worker you will be unhappy here; this is not a place where you can coast and maintain an under the radar existence.

    ConsFinancially shaky
    No hesitancy in firing people; somewhat brutal in that respect
    Could be better about disciplining problem managers - they are more concerned about performance here, sometimes don't care enough about employee morale or satisfaction

    Advice to Senior ManagementHistorical hires are fired too readily whenever they bring in a new management team, and then a few years later that management team is thrown out and the whole process begins again. Maybe it would be good to question new management who wants to come in and fire everyone and bring in their own people.

    Formulaic approach to marketing

    Associate Product Manager (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    Pros- Cross functional teams are generally strong
    - Ability to work on high visibility campaigns
    - Hours are reasonable with people out the door by 6-7PM (no wknds)

    Cons- Culture is very hierarchical
    - Marketing work is reporting and execution heavy
    - Behind the curve on using latest tools to market to consumers such as social media

    Advice to Senior Management- Management is very finance focused and they need more marketing or sales focus at the top to set the proper direction of the company
    - Empower the Marketing department with resources to know more about the consumer in order to aid the development of new products and to use marketing tools more effectively

    Typical big company feel

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsGreat people, excellent chance to learn about the cosmetic industry. I was given many opportunities to advance during my time there.

    ConsCan be "click-ish"! If you're not in the inner circle, you will not be recognized or commended for you work. Turn over rate is very high. Many come in and find out it's not what they expected.

    Fast-paced, high-learning environment

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros* High profile company with leading brands that are (arguably) quite glamorous.
    * Excellent learning environment, with a culture that encourages risk-taking and is not too process-driven/encumbered;
    * Exposure to all facets of the business--operations, marketing, sales--no matter what your role is;

    Cons* the nature of the industry means very long planning lead times and continual promotional development (which I suspect is a good thing, but sometimes can be stressful since the pace is so quick.)
    * very cut throat industry where share points are jockeyed around
    * depending on your level, politics can exist
    * high brand spend can sometimes come at the expense of profitability. Which means cuts in personnel, plants, restructuring, have been many in the past 5-8 years.
