    Pros

Top notch leadership from upper management. They really seem to care about their employees and work well with the staff to provide excellent patient care. We got a raise and/or a bonus every year even throughout the "bad" economy. Patient care is very clearly the top priority. Personalized and high quality care with the feel of a "small town" hospital.

    Cons

Unfortunately the times of great pensions and above average benefits are gone. They try their best to make sure their employees are well taken care of but have had to give in in a few small ways so that the budget makes sense economically. Still, employee insurance is somewhat affordable and PTO accrual rate is not bad.

    Advice to Management

Although the overall quality of the hospital is excellent, departments can vary. Sometimes communication can break down between managers and employees causing some frustration.

    Pros

They currently offer a decent benefits package with options for medical, dental, vision, long and short term disability as well as life insurance. The company values are very good.

    Cons

There is a small amount of micromanaging that can be frustrating, training is mostly computer modules, and the sick time-off policies are harsh.

    Advice to Management

Work on time off policies as well as include more training that is hands on not just computer modules.

    Pros

The vast majority of my Rex co-workers are truly wonderful, dedicated professionals. Based on conversations I've had with employees of other area hospitals, it seems Rex is highly-regarded industry-wide. I'm proud to work here.

    Cons

Rex (as part of the UHC system) is implementing Epic this year. The planning and training requirements are leaving departments short-staffed and stressed. Not great timing for a hiring freeze this past year.
Also, we're noticing a change in the mood and overall culture since we've started aligning more with UNC standards. Becoming more "corporate", stratified. Morale is starting to suffer, at least from what I've noticed.

    Pros

Great place to work. Great access to facility and free parking. Good communication with other disciplinary team such as pharmacy, ST, OT, PT, SW etc.

    Cons

Low salary. Higher management should be more involved and it should accomplished with frequent visitation during the day and night.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved in the employees work environment

    Pros

Pay is great. Employee's are great people and very hard workers.

    Cons

When you eliminate a position due to a merger and your HR department does nothing to help place the loyal employee some place else.

    Advice to Management

Find out how your budget cuts will effect your employees. Or at least offer them some thing. People have bills and responsibilities. Just like you do with your large salary.

    Pros

Some of my peers and doctors are ok.

    Cons

They treat new employees like garbage. You get the worst shift, little to no breaks, and the pay sucks.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone fairly. Rotate shifts to give everyone a chance of staying late and leaving early. Give proper orientation. Listen to feedback from team members. Rotate days off so everyone can have a 3 day weekend now and and then, not just the ones who have been there the longest. Get involved with your team members so you know what is going on and how the new employees are being treated.
