I worked at Rheem Manufacturing as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The best thing about working for this company was that I received a weekly paycheck. Secondly, I had all major holidays off. There were plenty of break areas in the factory and some tables outside if I wanted a change of scenery during my lunch break.

    Cons

The worst thing about my time there was all of the noise, smells, and heat of working in a factory environment. I had to wear earplugs whenever I stepped out of the office. I almost got run over by forklifts on several different occasions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would tell management to stop treating people differently just because they work on the assembly line instead of in the office.

I have been working at Rheem Manufacturing

    Pros

It is a big company that values moral and integrity in the workplace, great people and wonderful travle opportunities

    Cons

The mgmt structure lacks communication and skills to promote from within and lacks the computer system and software to handle any kind of financial or manufacturing problems in day to day activities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Comminicate when the company has trouble instead of having knee jerk reactions and laying off people to cover your bonuses.

I have been working at Rheem Manufacturing

    Pros

Contact with great customers; they make the job worthwhile. Opportunity to work with products that have the potential to be the best in their class

    Cons

The senior management changes with daylight savings time. Each new manager creates ever greater stresses before being pulled. Managers have little understanding of the market nor any interest to understand it. In the process they alienate good, longtime customers. The latest is a rash of promotions taking manufacturing engineers and making them division managers. They are academically bright, but clueless as to what is going on or how to work with people. The particular branch I am in universally hates the manager. There is no respect largely because of his own arrogance - he never gives positive feedback; presents the 'business trend du jour" based on whatever seminar he just attended, completely controls any message leaving the division (very much into self promotion at expense of others) and has REALLY alienated our customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Show respect to your staff
    2) It is OK to tell people they do a good job
    3) Listen, REALLY listen to your veteran staff
    4) Give credit where credit is due
    5) You can't keep adding tasks indefinitely without something giving
    6) Numbers don't always tell the story
