Current Employee – been working at Rio Tinto Energy America
Pros – Rio has the BEST safety in the world, it is second to none. They are competative on salary and benefits. I think they really do care about their people but it makes one wonder sometimes. The gain sharing program is a real plus. They offer gain sharing every three months which is paid based upon hours worked and pay level. This is not the case with hourly people though. They are paid once a year.
Cons – Shift work. It seems as though nothing ever changes unless corporate wants it. No one is willing to break through and be different. They keep falling into the same ruts all the time. It makes a person want to bang your head against a wall.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your heads together. Everything is reactive and nothing is proactive.

Pros – benefits, if you have to stay in Gillette WY

Former Employee – worked at Rio Tinto Energy America
Pros – It was easy to take time off. They offer decent benefits and bonuses. It could be worse. Different mines are run very differently.
Cons – Politics determines who gets advanced and who doesn't. Some of the management staff are not as knowledgeable as they should be.
Advice to Senior Management – More fairness to employees, don't just promote the ones who turn in others for rules violations. Keep compensation packages equal to that of other mines in the area.

Former Employee – worked at Rio Tinto Energy America
Pros – Great work experience and EXCELLENT, COMPETENT managers. Always willing to answer any questions and will help out in any way possible.
Cons – Job locations and commute distance. Each mine site takes at least 35 to get to, which isn't bad. Its the distance to each mine. On average 5 dollars a day was spent in gas to and from work.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep on doing exactly what you're doing. Every employee from haul truck operators to engineers are all very happy and satisfied with how things are run.
