    Pros

diverse work and colleagues, there are good chances to learn new things, some have nice exposure to the insurance industry

    Cons

innovation requires commitment to proper tools, training and infrastructure, quite often management seem to read about it in the inflight magazine ;-)
need to focus more on proper software engineering, while current product is still OK the future is in big data and large scale computing which are beyond standard knowledge for earthquake engineers

    Advice to Management

Implement objective decision-making; being lean is not equal to decide chaotically
Remove incompetent managers by objectively evaluating clients/employees/peers feedback

    Pros

    The people and entrepreneurial attitude

    Cons

Key decisions still being made by individuals in California who don't have sufficient client knowledge, but think they do. Still not validating with those in Hoboken, London and Zurich that do.

    Advice to Management

Lots of changes recently in senior management and their roles which is mainly for the better. HR in California is still awful and out of touch with the rest of the organisation, but team and especially Head hasn't changed.

Unfortunately Hemant is out of his depth in many areas as good at ideas, but won't admit that poor at execution. Hemant please become chairman and get a new CEO - impressed with Suresh so far...

    Pros

RMS breathes innovation and has the courage to inspire an industry. RMS had a choice to face 3 or so years ago and they, as a company, chose to take a risk. It would have been easy to stay status quo, with a near-to saturated market and a stable business model, but that is not in the company DNA. Instead they chose to take a risk. They chose to try to inspire and create a platform that nobody, in any financial service sector, had tried to do before. They (we) faced many challenges along the way, and fell short, but the journey was an enlightening one and RMS learnt significant lessons along the way. Whether or not RMS manages to now overcome the hurdle that they are trying to leap, I do not know, but being at a company that is attempting such a feat is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with passion and ambition to make a difference. Of course there are politics, frustrations, challenges and of course there are tense times but this is all part of doing something new and inspiring (remember the journey Apple took to get to where it is today!). RMS didn't give up and the initial blow was a difficult one to take. I am proud to say I worked at a company with such bravery at its core and fingers crossed they will prove the critics wrong and release RMS(one) in the near future.

    Cons

If you want to be a cog in an already established machine, do not join this company! You will hate it and frankly will be wasting both your and the companies time. That said, RMS does need to improve on many aspects. They need to know their strengths and their weaknesses, and they have many of both. RMS can feel like a tightly knit family at times - which is great in many ways - but sometimes difficult decisions need to be made with a business mindset, not family loyalty. There are too many people in powerful positions who have been at the company for a long time, but who now simply lack the skills required to take RMS on its new journey. These people frustrate the talented youth of the RMS mid-tier causing them to look else-where.

    Advice to Management

Let the young talent come through. The people who brought the company to where it is today are not necessarily the right people to lead this new journey, or if they do lead, they must listen and empower/compensate some of the younger stars too. Getting the balance right is key. We need the old-school leaders to guide and optimize the talent of the up and coming. Do not let the mid-tier talent get frustrated due to lack of transparency and ability to steer the ship.

    Pros

Some great colleagues who we will soon seen at the top of other, more innovative and merit driven companies ;-)

    Cons

Company is at the edge of the cliff where it was brought by top management (particularly CEO and ex-CTO Philippe Stephan).
It's amazing how long it managed to stay above the water taking this walk over swamp. Interests of shareholders, management and employees are completely misaligned - while DMGT owns 99% top management still treats it as personal sandbox with crazy level of politics and "friends" protectionism.. It was reported that platform is on track all the way to launch (now postponed to 2016). With no equity given to engineers and scientists it didn't manage to attract proper talent (instead lost quite many like Peter Nakada, Dag Lohmann, now CEO at KatRisk LLC, and Robert Bentley, now president of Marsh's US and Canada Division). Most of such "great" software engineering was done by fixed term contractors from bodyshops...
Hiring practices are questionable as well. Why would you put at mid-senior levels people with no connections in the industry, no technical understanding of RMS business and no charisma/leadership qualities? Such "managers" grow bureaucracy and hire conformists who want challenge their poor judgement.
Best way to climb career ladder in this company is to meticulously attend all (and largely useless) conference calls and meetings and compete in writing multi-A4 and blurred emails. Even better way is to create them ;-)

    Advice to Management

Praise the engineering and scientific people at the company who still bring you cash
Less arrogance to clients, listen what industry wants and needs
Listen to employees feedback on managers (vs. current system that only managers rate their reports)

    Pros

Lots going on in the company, new technology, new products and lots of change making the workplace a very dynamic and exciting environment. Work life balance is good and people are very smart, committed to the job and helpful to newcomers!

    Cons

The unknown path of the new product sometimes mean it can be frustrating to understand where we are going. Sometimes the global nature of the firm can mean communication can be tricky.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing on for RMS(one) and make sure development pace continues!

    Pros

RMS is an enterprising company to work at, with plenty of opportunity for job growth. With the upcoming release of RMS(one), the company is a very exciting place to work due to the changes internally, and those within the market. RMS has always been the leader in the cat modelling sphere, which is a fascinating area to work in - I am able to combine my interest in science, in particular geophysics, with the business world. Everyone at RMS is friendly, with regular pub trips and team building activities.

    Cons

My particular job requires flying around a lot which was very exciting to start with, but I now try to base myself at home more.
