I have been working at Risk Management Solutions as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

I had a good experience during my internship at RMS. I worked in a professional team and friendly team in model development team and gained a lot good experiences.

    Cons

I didn't see any problem during my internship. That being said, three months is probably not enough to notice possible cons in a company. Plus, I only worked with one manager.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most people are very nice to work with
    Nice campus, gym, cafe, etc.
    Decent pay, benefits, and perks

    Cons

    Politics, politics, and more politics
    No career path (see above)
Aimlessly trying to create something, without the talent
Senior management is really clueless and they are the same people that oversaw the last debacle

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please step aside. You all have been there a number of years (some 20 plus years). The culture you have made is that you're the smartest guys in the room. The world has changed and you aren't those guys. Some of you are so over your head, yet you can't admit that because of the culture. Some reviews on here call for the CEO to step aside. I don't know if he's the problem, but all of his 'leadership council' need to take a good long look in the mirror. These are people's livelihoods you're 'learning' from. Shame on you for not admitting you don't understand software development... solely understanding insurance or an earth science, or both, doesn't qualify you to tackle any of the tasks before you.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Amazing career progression opportunities, solid business model, market leader, innately high value offering that gets premium pricing, treat performing employees well, and good benefits.

    Cons

The company has temporarily lost its way in the last year and is looking to regain its footing. For some that might be a warning sign. For others it is a strong opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

RMS needs much stronger operational and execution leadership to execute against its compelling vision and strong market position.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - I don't work there anymore.
    - Flexible schedule since management doesn't know where you are or what you are doing.

    Cons

    - No interaction with management
    - Can't deliver a "next generation" product
    - Constantly changing priorities, technologies, vision, etc. (Ex. Identifying me as someone that might be willing to write a positive review on Glassdoor then laying me off)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive Management should step aside and bring in someone that can develop and execute a vision for the company.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - lunch and snacks
    - free gym, and shuttle to bart station

    Cons

    - They laid off half of the organization (includes Software engineer, QA, HR, Product Management)
    - RMS (One) is failure and now they are trying to re-build it using open stack
    - They don't know what platform they wanna build
    - No vision
    - Hiring and firing company (some engineers were hired 6 months back and now they got laid off)
    - After laid off they only gives 6 days for H1b people to find a new job

Advise: don't join this company ( they will try to give you more money and after some time you will get laid off or get fired) before joining this company please talk to some one who worked for RMS in past.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It was fun till operations started hiring to support new cloud initiative.

    Cons

Product in the cloud will not work, poor choice in the future. Too much data, security issues and stability will be a problem for RMS one to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire and ride off into the sunset.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits, gym, 1 day free lunch, competitive compensation
Try to get in the right department or group and you should be ok
Cash cow company so got $$
Great learning opportunity, especially cloud related, to move to another company

    Cons

appear to have unfair hire and fire mentality under poor management
Certain departments or BU have low morality due to management
All the money seems to go to a fatter middle management meaning more manager and directors. Did I just say too many chiefs and not enough peons
Certainly doesn't have the startup feel as to talk or work with others. It is highly structured environment - depending on your role, expect to open tickets just to talk to someone or attend lots of meetings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cloud platform/service management team is the newest boy of the block but appear to be the bad apple in the bucket. The Cloud top management has only been around for 3 years and I would give them an "F" each year. Sadly enough, all the money is going into the cloud which is great if you can get into that group to learn and leave.
If someone does end of working here, make sure you are in the right department and have a good manager
My main advice is to top management - talk to your top engineers. Make sure it is safe for them to talk so that may be you will get a clue

    internship

Current Employee - Intern  in  Newark, CA
Current Employee - Intern in Newark, CA

I have been working at Risk Management Solutions as an intern

    Pros

smart people, interesting work, room to learn, good work-life balance (flexibility), great compensation for an internship

    Cons

interdepartmental communication is poor, sometimes intradepartmental communication can be frustrating with teams spread out across continents and with different priorities in different locations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication and coherency between and within groups is important. It stresses everyone out and hurts productivity to have groups split focus (ex. product management is essentially two groups, one focusing on product development and the other on client-facing practices). It sounds like the company reorganizes a lot.
