Pros
Leader in its field. Good life/work balance
Cons
Lack of execution competence. Lot of reorg
Pros
- If you work hard and play the politics game to get your name out there, you can get good money relatively quickly
- The work can be interesting when not bogged own by office politics
Cons
- Office politics in Model Development are current terrible
- Senior management is all scientists which is causing a problem in how to manage a company
- HR needs to given more power to keep managers accountable, currently this lack of accountability is killing all the projects as people get enlarged egos
Advice to Senior Management
- Make your employees accountable, ESPECIALLY management
- Try an anonymous email or physical suggestions/complaints box. This could prove VERY interesting and helpful
- Hire some people that know how to manage, not just scientists who think they know everything and don't need HR or someone else telling them they need to improve. The scientists here get all bent out of shape because they have been allowed too much lee-way and someone needs to check many of their egos [perhaps including this humble scientist's as well]
Pros
Work-life balance is very good and the products are leading the industry
Cons
lack of crispness and execution focus
Pros
Collegiate environment with good benefits
Cons
Junior staff demotivated due to comp issues
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to deepen the senior management ranks; stop restructuring every few months
Pros
Flexibility, organized, and open to new ideas
Cons
Commute, low pay, and no stock options
Advice to Senior Management
More openess
Pros
smart people, flexible hours, good reputation
Cons
lack of clarity in management and vision, no career advancement path, VP and above mostly are hired, multiple re-orgs in the past few years
Advice to Senior Management
start getting upward review, start being clear about decisions and communications, rather than ideas present plans to employees
Pros
The work life balance is adequate. Decent benefits package offered. Overall nice, friendly people and nice campus with good ammenities.
Cons
There is no career progression. RMS is infamous for hiring above from the outside. They need to look at the quality workers they have in place and provide career growth opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the walk. Stop making changes on what seems like a whim. Stop firing people when you decide (on a whim) to "go a different direction". And pay us better or your attrition rate will continue.
Pros
The company has a great reputation in catastrophe risk modelling space; knowledge co-workers (depends on teams)
Cons
Super political: surprised to see how political this small company is.... communications among teams are always monitored... very pressured
Zero knowledge exchange between teams
Poor training quality: It is different from a few years ago, when decent trainings are given appropriately
The HR are on the management's side: HR is not impartial; instead, they work for the management. The HR team is untrustworthy.
High turnover rate
Pros
Smart, passionate people, Compensation. Visionary CEO.
Cons
No upward mobility. Fundamental gaps in ability to manage employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to translate Hemant's vision into actions.
Pros
RMS has many smart people who genuinely try to get things done. The benefit package is adequate and the compensation is fair for some parts of the company. The lower down in the organization you go, the more the people try to work as a team and help each other.
Cons
Senior management is often clueless when it comes to the pulse of the company. Turnover is in the double digits, which creates a constant revolving door. The consistent churn creates a nightmare for the people left as they try to keep work moving as well as train an endless parade of new employees. Sr. Management in the business as well as HR will always side with management and can not be trusted.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a critical look inside the ranks and determine who is actually there for the good of the company. Make tough decisions in evaluating performance and stick to what you say you are going to do. Be careful of discriminatory practices in hiring and promoting.
