Pros
Simple, easy, nice place, yeah
Cons
Not enough hours to work
Pros
Good seasonal job for high school kids.
Very flexible work hours.
Start work day around 10 in the morning so ability to sleep in.
Cons
Only minimum wage.
No real upward mobility.
The owner only really cares about making a profit.
No real work structure.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a more pro-active role with the employees and be more aware of what is going on in the shop because people you think are working hard are really not.
Pros
The job is very simple, you do need to have good customer service abilities though since you will be dealing with people a lot.
Cons
At this particular location they have too many employees making it impossible to work enough hours! And they play favortism towards certain employees giving them more oppurtunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Just make sure you always arrive at work when you are supposed to and always do the job with a smile on your face!
Pros
-Good enviornment
-Everyones nice
-Managers are nice&funny
-very clean
-praise you when you do somthing good
-good training, they helped me learn how to make things pretty fast, the online training was good then in store training was good too.
Cons
-Low pay (minimum wage)- tips get split betwwen all workers at the end of 2 weeks, then that gets put in your paycheck.. so you dont make much in tip at all.. and money comes home with you that day.
-Training was little on the spot.. they immediatly make you serve customoers and for the first couple days they are up your but about everything-made me nervous.
-lots to do rarly just standing arounf
-floors are slippery because were always moping.. may fall a few times lol
Advice to Senior Management
the leader ship here is great all the people that have worked there for 2+ years are great and friendly teachers... they do not criticize you for somthing you do wrong
- Managers are nice but somtimes strict, and want your custards and ice domes to look perfect... and perfecct just isnt the option all the time.. so somtimes they will make you remake things and put you on the spot.. other than that, they are great.
Pros
good tips
great customers
flexible schedule- accommodating towards days requested off (vacations)
nice coworkers- helpful
get to sample the ice
Cons
not enough hours only 4-6 hours shifts
sometimes very tiring with no breaks
favoritism towards those who worked there longer(better hours)
called off because three workers on is too much
worked there for two years and was not trained how to make ice and was the only worker who did not have a key
Advice to Senior Management
treat all workers fairly
don't call a worker off when they are scheduled to come in because "it wasn't busy all day"
Pros
Friendly staff and coworkers and a very encouraging environment for new employees. Would definitely recommend as a place to begin your career.
Cons
Can get very busy in the summer, disgruntled customers. Can get stressful with long lines
Advice to Senior Management
Work on improving the performance of the counter servers to ensure good quality customer service and a happy work force.
Pros
service friendly, clean, new flavors, good marketing
Cons
LATE hours, seasonal should be yearly, should have more open
Advice to Senior Management
seasonal should be extended, high school students should not be the only people working
Pros
at ritas it is a typical customer service job if you work at a normal store. there are some bad customers and some good customers
Cons
as noted before there can be a lot of awful customers and also depending on the manager, it can be hard to make it to manager status
Advice to Senior Management
i suggest to owners of stores to keep in mind the work done by the people when trying to decide how to promote people
Pros
-great co-workers
-not a stressful job
-tips
-job could be fun
-good training
-all the free water ice and custard you could want
Cons
-very low pay
-overworked for the amount you are paid
-owner cared only about money
-expected to make the store your life during the summer
-numerous corporate rules broken that ripped off customer
-favoritism, only certain people got "flexible" hours
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees well (especially if they work extra hard), this encourages them to do their best and makes them want to return the following season. Be honest about any issues that come up. Treat all employees the same and with respect.
Pros
Learn fast-paced food operations and have some fun! Interface with many different people. Customers are always in a good mood and managers are laid back. We're selling frozen confectionary delights!
Cons
Resisting the ice and custard. No, seriously folks. There are many reasons to work at Rita's. And sure, as with any occupation or career, there are some downsides.
Let me begin by stating how delicious the melon with the buttercream custard is. Try the melon. Try the buttercream. Pretty delicious, right? Now, mix them together. Go on. Really fantastic, isn't it? Truly. Truly Fantastic.
That is one of the important things I learned at Rita's in Philly (near my apartment).
I'm now in a position in a new industry and I hope to write about that when I get done.
Thanks, Rita's!
