    Pros

getting to learn/play with new equipment, help regulars better photographers, was able to transfer cross-country during the companies heyday.

    Cons

low base wage, only can make nice commissions at high-volume/traffic stores. one size fits all management for stores in very different markets.

    Advice to Management

offer employees to share work, run store photo contests, photo potlucks, would make employees happier and quite likely increase revenue.

    Pros

The culture of the company, district and store managers was great-- But the people in the corporate office were constantly dropping the ball and ended up screwing everything up in the end.

    Cons

Very secretive once the company started going down-hill. Pay was minimum wage with the promise of "sales incentives", but the sales were very few and not enough to supplement the pay for a livable wage. For the amount of expertise required, this job deserved a higher base pay.

    Advice to Management

The company is gone now, so this is irrelevant.

    Pros

Perks (2 out of 5 stars), Bonuses (4 out of 5 stars), medium to strong company values (4 out of 5 stars), office culture (3 out of 5 stars)

    Cons

Office Culture (great, everyone was very helpful, depending on the CORP department); leadership (2.5 stars ouf of 5); time office policies (4.5 out of 5 stars). This corporate culture (at the Ritz Camera & Image, LLC, Beltsville HQ) was intense.

    Advice to Management

When you are up against the wall, consider looking at the office culture; my experience with all departments was great, from the executive offices to the people in Customer Services (especial the managers); however, information should be shared (from a "need to know" perspective") so that those employees who have been with the company and have a management role shares the information with all managers (even when they don't want to due to the reorg.) People don't like change, but this should not affect their behavior where they risk and jeopardize the operations of the company.

  10. Great co-workers, OK perks, poor management and business plan.

    Pros

The people. The 40% off finishing. Fairly flexible hours. Decent amount of down-time relative to the season. Decent job if you need something part time while in high school or college.

    Cons

All managers hired were under qualified, thieving, and had poor communication skills. Technology was a joke. The POS system was minimum 15 years old. The pay was incredibly low for the level of expertise and sales they had you push. Commissions were also underwhelming. Theft was rampant among management and employees, leading to entire stores closing down.

    Advice to Management

Hire competent folks with good interpersonal, and people managing skills. Do background checks to ensure you aren't hiring someone with theft, or fraud in their background. Have a structured learning period and provide regular feedback.

    Pros

Great customers, fun products to sell.

    Cons

Executives thought they could be like an ostrich and put their head in the ground rather than facing issues head on.
