    I worked at Ritz-Carlton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1) Pretty place in which to work. 2) Good perks when traveling and staying at other Ritz properties. 3) They feed employees. 4) It looks good on a resume. 5) Great opportunities to be promoted and move up or on to other properties if one so desires.

    Cons

    1) Poor management: Iago-esque middle managers and obtuse upper management. 2) Questionable behavior by employees on the job. 3) Management has a poor grasp of what constitutes a hostile work environment. 4) Really poor shift scheduling. 5) An air of union busting.

    Advice to Management

Mandatory refresher courses on sensitivity training. Schedule worker's shifts to avoid burnout. Teach employees how to properly do their jobs (not just drill the "Ritz culture" into their heads.) Stop falling back on the Ritz "Golden Standards."

    I worked at Ritz-Carlton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are strong and secure. Also, the hotel discounts are amazing.

    Cons

It is a 24 hour operation and work life balance is not considered even though it is one of their core values.

    Advice to Management

Managers work as much or even more than employees. I would not recommend being a manager here.

    Pros

Meet plenty of great people Great place to network and meet industry leaders Takes good care of hour employees Great hotel discounts

    Cons

Upper management does not walk the talk HR goes out of their way to protect lousy employees and does not allow management to effectively manage Called the plantation Managers are expected to work 80+ hours a week and are not allowed to have a personal life Ownership will not allow for proper staffing so days are spent constantly running around doing the work of several people

    Advice to Management

If you want to be a luxury company you have to act like one. Bring back manager bonuses and allow for more managers at each property.
