    Pros

Once it was full of great engineers where you can have healthy discussions but now as good engineers are leaving.

New hires have a chance of getting into early stage of stock options strike price, existing employees can grow as more people leave from the company.

    Cons

Currently the company is in total disarray. No clear direction and no one to take control and answer hard questions. Management needs to step up and perform and keep the good employees.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent, vocal, talk to engineers and don't use the scripted language to answer all the questions. Riverbed has lot of smart people and they understand when you don't answer directly.

    Pros

Good benefits and Professional environment. Good products and people

    Cons

Since the leveraged buyout the company has changed direction. Negative environment and lost core competencies. They used to say people are their best asset. Now they a cost factor. Its all about Margins now.

    Advice to Management

Work on CORE competencies and long term strategic thinking.

    Pros

It is with mixed emotions I see Riverbed's decent, departing the Nasdaq to become the property of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
Some really good people, most of whom have now left
For a while, cutting edge technology unrivaled in the industry, unfortunately now past its use-by-date.

    Cons

For anyone joining the company, the future is uncertain, after the sale of the company.
The April layoffs are a signal the company is not aggressively expanding, and may further decline, it will be hard to attract great employees without the stock benefits it used to offer when it was Nasdaq listed.

    Advice to Management

You have the opportunity now to either renew the company with enthusiasm and fresh ideas, or continue the current course everyone can see is sinking Riverbed to the bottom of the river.

    Pros

Work and home life is balanced. Management empowers employees to be decide how work is to be done. Work environment is geared toward trust that employee will do the right thing.

    Cons

Since the announcement that the company is going private, the upper management has gone mute. The time that has taken to take the company private has taken way too long. I don't think the management want to say anything until the deal is done. This is causing some wait and see.

    Advice to Management

Lead, be direct with the company on what its vision is and how it is going to get there. Be honest.

    Pros

    -Nice SF location, easy commute
    -Some Free Food

    Cons

-The company lost it way since the OPNET purchase. Mgmt did poor job on integration
    -Too many egomaniacs in leadership.
-Jerry (CEO) is not honest with employees. He sells the company despite saying a $21 offer is too cheap.
-RIFs are happening now with more coming.
-Comp is below average unless VP or above.
    -Little or no career development
    -Poor work/life balance
    -High employee turn-over
-I would avoid Riverbed until things stabilize

    Advice to Management

    -Be honest
    -Put down your ego

A great company with one of the best cultures in silicon valley. trustworthy leadership doing the best they can in a tough situation of change

    Cons

the deal closing took way too long and caused people to be in limbo.....now that its all done, expect the company to get back to the business of growth!

    Advice to Management

    better, more regular communication

    Pros

Riverbed has great engineers, and everyone has been very friendly and supportive. I think people avoid pointing fingers when things go wrong, and instead try to prevent the same mistake from happening again.

    Cons

We just had our first RIF as part of going private, so morale is clearly down. On the other hand, there should be a real opportunity to make a change, and an impact.

    Advice to Management

There's a real market opportunity which mgmt is clearly focused on. Remember that the rest of us need to see that vision clearly: we need to know that we're "building a cathedral, not just laying bricks"
