    Great Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThey have a strong commitment to continuing education including helping pay for employees to get a masters/Doctorate. Office is clean and break rooms have free snacks and drinks for employees (Interns have to pay 25 cents) They have flexible hours to work you can come in and work early or late or standard 8:00 to 5:00. As an intern you gain a lot of real world experience and you get to do what you were hired into so no form filling, phone answering, etc. Friendly and helpful employees that are willing to help you if needed. They are also non-profit so a lot of free cookouts/etc. for employees.

ConsFor a software developer the environment may at times be restrictive. The non-profit nature means long term employment can be hit or miss depending on funding. Sometimes corporate decisions/policies are confusing and seem to cause issues. Benefits also are somewhat shrinking.

My experience with Riverside Research has been good, overall.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Dayton, OH

ProsRiverside Research has better benefits than any other government contractor in the WPAFB area. Compensation is also very competitive, if you are able to accurately estimate what you should be making and ask for it. Riverside treats their employees like family and is loath to let anyone go. Though contracts come and go, Riverside recognizes that people are its greatest asset and works hard to find people new positions.

ConsDue to the nature of government contracts (i.e. the tendency of employees to be embedded at client sites), it can be difficult to gain recognition for accomplishments. Employees with behavioral problems tend to get special treatment in the form of better positions.

Small organization with exceptional benefits which allows it to be highly selective when hiring.

Research Associate (Current Employee) Dayton, OH

ProsExtremely generous benefits package. Great working environment, they tend to hire experienced, former government and military personnel with proven track records, so everyone is competent, hard working and dedicated. The management takes care of the employees. Even though hard work is expected, the company respects balance of life for its people and provides generous vacation and sick time benefits.

ConsA small organization that is almost totally dependent on defense spending. Loss of a single contract could significantly and negatively impact the workforce.

Advice to Senior ManagementDiversify into non-defense research areas to provide a buffer should defense spending decrease.

Great company if you get lucky enough to have a well-respected Program Manager.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosstrong compensation package with generous benefits
    minimal bureaucracy
you will be left alone if your contract is well funded and your Program Manager is well respected.

ConsSince this is a small company, the character and reputation of the Program Managers will impact the future opportunities of their direct reports. When a Program Manager has a negative relationship with the customer, contracts disappear. Unfortunately, this has become the new standard.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the Program Managers based on performance metrics.
It's easy for a PM to let their direct reports go when contracts are lost. Unfortunately, Program Managers are never held accountable for their contribution to the contract losses.
