Pros
Pay and benefits are GREAT.
Cons
YRC is taking jobs away from Roadway and adding more Yellow jobs
Advice to Senior Management
Management in the local terminal is fine but management above them stinks.
Pros
Good union work. Even though Teamsters aren't as strong as they use to be.
Cons
Union losing steam
dirty work environment
Advice to Senior Management
Quit pushing the union
Pros
The pay and benefits were great. You started at $11 and worked up to around $22 an hour within 3 years no matter whether you were part time or full time. Overtime was time and half for full time employees. Benefits were offered to both part time and full time employees. It was an excellent job to have while going to college.
Cons
Billing was almost all 2nd shift and those who got 1st or almost 1st shift had either been there for a very long time or were chosen for seemingly random reasons. There weren't a lot of cons until the merger with Yellow happened and the company started to go down hill. Upper management handled the entire situation poorly. We did get a good separation package, though.
Pros
opportunity for career growth within
Cons
work life balance was horrible overall
Advice to Senior Management
open line of communication with employees
Pros
the economy is brutal, so overall not a good time to be in this industry.
Cons
little guidance, ever-changing commission structure, no help from corporate when problems arise, billing system is terrible
Advice to Senior Management
fix billing errors and you will keep more clients
Pros
National Company with decent pay and benefits. Company was good until Yellow bought it out and then ran everyone into debt.
Cons
Was a good company until Yellow bought them out and messed up by purchasing USF. Unbelivable that Bill Zollers is still there after they had to take a 800 million dollar write down as a result of their poor decision to purchase USF. Now they are in trouble and they still have the guys who ran the company into the ground and they are still around. How sad.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit and get some competent people to run this multi billion dollar company.
Pros
For the area in which I was living in, Roadway was one of the better paying jobs that was around. The environment was alright at most.
Cons
Takes a long time to gain seniority on the dock, and would most like wait 10 years to work a day-shift, and at least 20 years to have off Sat-Sun.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more up front when laying people off.
Pros
The pay and benefits package.
Cons
Everything except the above tells it all.
Advice to Senior Management
This is above my paygrade and one is told this when trying to be innovative.
