I learned everything NOT to do in a professional environment

Branch Manager Professional Staffing Services (Former Employee)
Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Robert Half full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI learned what not to do as a manager, leader and how to treat the temps that worked for us.

ConsNo life work balance, pay is crap, once you build your book of business to the point of bonusing, they will restructure it and give you less. There is no career growth here, training is non-existent and upper management is full of designer suit jerks.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in the people you hire so that you can reduce turnover, build LASTING relationships with cllients and candidates and create a career plan for people when they come in.

Bad bonus structure is a deal breaker

Staffing Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Robert Half full-time for less than a year

ProsGood training that is persistent well past the "intro" period.

ConsUnlike other staffing companies which start paying bonuses after your first placement, Accountemps takes a while (6 months if you're a wunderkind) to hand you any kind of commission check. While this means that you don't immediately feel it when you have a bad week, you may be very broke for a while.

Advice to Senior ManagementI understand that you pride yourself on being better or different than "everyone else in the market," but there may be a reason that 90% of other agencies have dedicated recruiting and marketing roles, as well as different bonus structures. Are you telling me Robert Half is the only one that is doing it correctly? Certain structures are popular because they work better.

Excellent at finding work for their clients

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
Baltimore, MD

I have been working at Robert Half as a contractor for more than a year

ProsFast in finding assignments for clients, pretty reasonable pay, opportunities exist for classes, courses online, books and tutorials 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; from day one. Five paid holidays after 2200 hours.

ConsYou can be pigeon-holed into a position that will not hire you full-time, but refuse to let you move on for a better opportunity. They will not re-assign you as long as your client wants to keep you. If you are asked to do something against their policy on an assignment; they will keep putting you off instead of answering you. I asked a question re: using my car to pick up coffee supplies with cash funds and to this day have never rec'd an answer. I agreed in an attempt to be hired permanently w/benefits-but later read in their brochure both these actions are against their policy. Nearly a year later; they had the audacity to email me they were still checking on question and would soon get back to me. Their health insurance plan is 86% life insurance and only 14% is applied to a "mini-health insurance policy". They are aware of it; but still promote it as health plan. The brochures warn to verify coverage prior to being seen-because they will not pay for it. And as it turns out-none of the hundreds they email you accept this mini-plan. It took nearly eights months of payments to discover this and cancel this fraudulent insurance.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease revisit your health care plan-it is a huge disservice to your employees. A lot of time and money was wasted in the 8 months I had this useless policy-before finding out the truth (or lack thereof) to it! A consultant should not be forced to stay with a company nearly 2 years who up front stated they wanted a temp-to-hire position; but will not release them. I referred someone six months after my start date and that person is now a permanent employee w/benefits while I am still stuck in a dead end position with no chance of advancement or raise. Direct answers should be given to consultants regarding policy. Complaints should be investigated-should look out for both consultants/customers equally and unbiased.
