I worked at Robin Hood Foundation full-time
Pros – Amazing coworkers- despite disfunction, the org continues to attract great staff at the lower levels; mission is compelling; highly invested and powerful board; far reach in nonprofit community in NYC
Cons – Terrible communication practices from senior staff; new leadership intended to fix management issues has made them even worse; too many micromanagers in charge who don't trust their highly capable staff or each other; no real opportunity for advancement or professional development

I worked at Robin Hood Foundation
Pros – Robin Hood's missions is wonderful (helping to fight poverty throughout New York City). The organization has some great young inspired individuals/minds doing good work and making a real difference. Working at Robin Hood also provides the opportunity to enjoy some fun perks at various points throughout the year, including attendance to private concerts, movie premiers, sporting events, etc.
Cons – Some major cons: Atrocious lack of management - how can you expect to employ reasonably happy and effective individuals if you crush their souls, say terrible things behind their backs, undermine their efforts and treat them like undeserving minions? No cohesiveness at all in management, terribly misguided and machiavellian individuals are assigned to leadership roles for no apparent reason (and wildly overpaid). Animosity trickles throughout the organization, from the top-down. A real shame.
Advice to Senior Management – Nasty people who are overpaid for poor performance and complete ineffectiveness should be more far more appreciative of optimistic young employees working very hard for very little reward.

Cons – Worst management team with no sense of process or the ability to allow people to do what they do best and what they were hired for.

I worked at Robin Hood Foundation full-time
Pros – Insurance benefits and the knowledge that you are working for an organization that gives a great amount of grants to organizations in NYC that matter.
Cons – Senior staff has unclear and disrespectful style of communication to their employees, plus they are not accountable for any of their negative actions.
No support, encouragement or constructive feedback for employees, resulting in high turnaround of staff and bad morale.

I worked at Robin Hood Foundation
Pros – Great mission, some very smart and passionate people on staff.
Inspiring grantees, some inspiring donors/trustees.
Good work-/life balance and excellent benefits.
Cons – Very un-professional environment, un-skilled managers.
Continued re-structuring without addressing actual organizational problems.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire some executive coaches to improve your skills. Or, move on to new organizations and let a breath of fresh air in the organization with a new management team.
