  1.

High-quality firm with strong attorney pool, good track record

    Pros

Good opportunities to work on significant litigation that affects the market. Excellent associate training program, including for summer associates. Prepares associates for litigation holistically.

    Cons

RKMC doesn't have as large of a national presence as some other firms, which can be a challenge. Some of the large clients really influence the work process, also a challlenge.

Exceptional Firm - rare amongst big firms

Former Employee - Associate  in  Los Angeles, CA
Former Employee - Associate in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

The people are fantastic. The firm culture is one of inclusion. Training is second-to-none. The firm invests a ton of resources into training its associates. If you are proactive and eager to learn, you will have a ton of opportunities. But they won't just be handed to you. You have to demonstrate that you want them and are willing to work for them.

    Cons

It's a big firm. The usually things that come with that. Getting hands-on trial experience, working on massive cases with 20 other lawyers, etc., but that is the exception rather than the rule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focusing on developing the up and coming talent.

    Pros

Lots of responsibility and opportunity to direct own workflow; more lifestyle-oriented than other firms; colleagues are all professional and nice. High-caliber work-product and solid reputation.

Compensation below market. Missing some key practice areas that make it difficult to bring in clients that want full-service. Insufficient investment in mentoring of young associates to ensure a clear progression to partnership.

    Pros

Prominent firm in the twin cities and getting a national reputation

    Cons

You are always on. It is part of the law firm lifestyle but I have heard Robins called a sweatshop and it can be at times.

Hard charging, but a great place to learn and grow.

    Pros

Robins was a challenging and instructive work environment. Many of the partners and senior leadership were fun to be around and friendly.

    Cons

The mid-level and junior associates were not fun to work with. They were consistently scared for their own jobs and took it on on each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to balance out the work environment between senior leadership and associates. It was often a difficult place to work given the neurosis of the people you'd interact with day to day.
