  1. Great people low salaries

I have been working at Rochester College

    Pros

I really like working at the college with co-workers that really did care for one another. It was like a family.

    Cons

Salary was low and advancement was usually non-existent. They didn't invest in their people. And there were hardly any pay increases and when there were they were like 2% or 3%.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the work the staff is doing and reward those who are going above and beyond (many are).

  2. It is like a family...a dysfunctional family

    Pros

It is great to feel like you are shaping the minds of future generations

    Cons

Compensation is LOW. Morale suffers. Very weak leadership. HR is often unaware of what is said/promised in the interview process.

    Advice to Management

Understand you are expecting a lot while paying little. You can't be a jerk Monday-Friday and act friendly on Sunday. We see you everyday. Remember that you work at a Christian institution...ACT LIKE IT.

    Pros

shape future generations. If you don't live too far away. If you are allowed to go, chapel is great. many employees are fantastic.

    Cons

poor management, "good old boy network", poor pay, surprisingly not family friendly (for a Christian college)
Things said in the interview are substantially different than reality. Very little training or direction in the job. no budget to work with and a 20 million dollar deficit.

    Advice to Management

Get over yourself. remember that you are working at a Christian institution. Just because you hate your family doesn't mean everyone else needs to come in early and stay late like you. Figure out technology so you understand your employees job. Things like Blackberry's, sharing calendars and facebook are tools to be used, not things that are confusing to avoid.
