I worked at Rochester Gas and Electric full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Environment, Great work life balance, great pay.

    Cons

Having to be on call during bad weather/outages. Having people yell at you about their service, but that comes with the territory, lol.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue what you guys do!! The call center was a great place for me, working with people who actually not only cared about how you were at work, but genuinely cared about you as in indivual and your situation. It truly felt like a 2nd family and not just a call center...

I worked at Rochester Gas and Electric full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is decent for the area, excellent benefits.

    Cons

Nepotism, unprofessional environment, extreme favoritism, training is mediocre. Truly stab you in your back attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be Professional and consistent, provide unbiased training, give your new hires a chance to excel before you begin picking them apart. If an employee has several customer compliments that should speak in volumes. Stop allowing personal issues dictate how you treat your employees. Just because NY is a right to work state is not reason enough to discharge someone because your family member doesn't like them.

I have been working at Rochester Gas and Electric full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with a great family oriented company has been wonderful and while working there if there is a family emergency they allow you to just go and take care of yourself and family members. Opportunities are endless within different departments too.

    Cons

Difficult to move up within the company as many businesses are.. at times people feel unless you know someone.. you won't get anywhere unless you have an astounding amount of experience.

I worked at Rochester Gas and Electric

    Pros

Job security for lineman and gas crew. Not so for other workers
Grand-fathered workers get 6 weeks of vacation . Unheard of in modern industry.

    Cons

VERY bureaucratic! A heavy Top-down organization
Communication? What communication? Management communicates on a need-to-know basis and 99% of the time they think you don't need to know.
Unless you are a generic office worker (or management), moving around the company is hard to do since the positions are specialized. No career path. Opportunities usually mean you have to move out of town to another location.
Politics are rampant - Divisions are overly protective of their interests
Pay raises. They will tell you that you should be thankful to just have a job.
Layoffs. Very secretive as they ask people to leave on the slide, yet they went from a company of 3800 down to 700-800.Did YOU read about that in the papers?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are intelligent and DO need to know what is happening in the company because it directly affects THEM.

    Cons

    Management is terrible
Pay raises are hard to come by
Have to do everything management says other wise will be written up
