Pros
Solid workforce was its best attribute. All the worker bees tried hard and gave it their all, even if the direction given was not the best.
Cons
Some executives were much better than others. Had a 'good ol' boy' network at the top...just rotating jobs every few years.
Advice to Senior Management
Retire those who need to be retired and bring in some new blood, or better yet, promote those who deserve it and are already doing all the work.
Pros
Competitive pay, good benes, growth opportunities, upper mgmt performing well, flexible time, collaborative work environment, intelligent employees
Cons
long interview process, disparate IT systems, weak systems training, employee morale is not the best, too bureaucratic and political. communication among divisions, functions needs improvement
Advice to Senior Management
Trust your employees to make more decisions, centralize functions more.. too many disparate systems and processes to hone in. Need to improve employee morale and improve turnover rate
Pros
Free beverages and potlucks are nice
Cons
Unprofessional work environment with a low amount of employee "buy-in"
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest that they loosen up on the internet restraints. If an employee likes to listen to music via online streaming to work more efficiently, let them.
Pros
Large company with growth on its mind and can be a very exciting environment to be in. Lot of opportunities for the right circles.
Cons
Like many other companies it seems you have to know someone to progress and the bean counters have a strangle hold on budgets that voids any chance of training for a lot of departments.
Not consistent with internal job postings.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop consistent policies and enforcement routines to keep any essence of irregularities in job placements to a minimum. Maybe outside third parties can be used.
Pros
Pay (overtime was available if wanted)
Team members are willing to work with you.
Cons
Clueless management
Outdated equipment
Intershift division
Supervision that was more concerned with punishmet than accomplishment
Advice to Senior Management
OPX had several useful tools but no one in coporate or the plant had any idea how to apply them. What was needed was more involvement from operators and more support as far as creating an enviroment for OPX to be successful.
Pros
The Chicago office location and the many quality co-workers which I have worked with for a long period of time.
Cons
The office will be closing mid 2012
Pros
Compensation is probably above what it should be for the corrugated industry. The benefits are not bad when compared to others.
Cons
It is simply the good ol boy club. There is an ever changing flavor of the week. The company simply does not understand that the answers to their biggest challenges are locked away in their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to your employees. They are the best professionals in your field and they are on your payroll already. Ask them what they think needs to be done. They already know what will work and what wont. They know all of the ideosycnchracies that go along with each process.
Pros
Strong company with good benefits
Cons
Middle to upper management lacking vision. Too many "job scared".
Pros
Great pay but employees work very hard for it. Most workers were very friendly and they are very dedicated to their jobs and the success of the company.
Cons
Long hours. Boss expected everything to be done 5 minutes before he asked for it. The management structure is very decentralized. Working at the corporate office it was a struggle to get the various divisions and factories to communicate and work with each other.
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that employees want a better work/life balance. Nobody likes being expected to work 10-12 hours a day every week. Make new hires eligible for benefits right away.
Pros
freedom
flexibility
nice office space
some good leaders
Cons
low salary
favoritism
lost in theshuffle
st louis location is the hq
