I have been working at Rocket Lawyer full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Unlimited PTOs
    - Nice and friendly people around the office
    - Health benefits
    - Mid management are very accommodating to their rapports
    - Great work- life balance

    Cons

    - Lack transparency of what's going on in the company. All hands meeting happens once a quarter
    - Unethical billing practice and everyone in the company is very well aware of it, but the CEO does not seem to care or want to correct this problem
    - Lack of key leaders in the company
    - Founder/CEO does not know how to run the company and take it to the next level. He approves/disapproves great ideas simply because they do not "go his way"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to replace the CEO with someone who's able to accept the company facts and change it. With this pace, Rocket Lawyer will not grow

    Pros

    - Some smart people that are not enabled to perform at their best
    - Good work - life balance

    Cons

This is one of those companies that will make you dread going into work on a daily basis. Talk about a depressing place to work. If you’re going into interview for a job at Rocket Lawyer, be sure to take note of the negative energy that exists in the office and among the employees to determine if that’s an environment that you spend any amount of time in. Also, please use your best judgement when reading any positive reviews as those were planted by senior management to improve the ratings of the company on Glassdoor and to try to get new hires in the door.

What other employees have mentioned about the founder are true. He is an egomaniacal sociopath that is unable to hand over the reigns to the employees to let them do their jobs. Rocket Lawyer employees essentially take orders from the founder and any attempt to make decisions are met with pushback and resistance. The founder will dictate what something should look like (design), what it should say (copy), and what the customer experience should be (UX). If you have a differing opinion or perspective than him, he will tell you to get on his page because your opinion is incorrect. The reality is, he is an attorney and not an entrepreneur. If, and when this company fails, the founder will only have himself to blame.

The company also has a case of “shiny bright object syndrome” - constantly shifting priorities and leaving projects that have been worked on for months on the shelf - wasting valuable time and resources.

    - Highly political.
    - Lack of good leadership across the organization.
    - They cannot stick with a single product development process and it changes almost every quarter.
    - No career development or opportunities for advancement - it's a dead-end job.
    - Unethical customer acquisition and billing strategies.
    - Extremely negative work environment.
    - Way too many meetings and not enough time to do actual work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do yourself a favor and find and find somewhere else you can make a contribution.

    I worked at Rocket Lawyer

    Pros

    - Great people, so long as they are not in charge of anything.
    - Great hours, you don't really have to work.

    Cons

    - Terrible CEO / Founder. Aka "The Monster". This came up in interviews when I was leaving, no one thinks highly of this guy.
    - Leadership was promoted based on being lawyers or loyal to the monster. Too many lawyers, too few doers.
    - Features added to the site are done not based off of any real data, but rather what the monster wants.
    - So much process... so many meetings...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire.

    Pros

Some really nice people work there. Business trajectory seems to be positive. They provide almonds and coffee. Very close to BART.

    Cons

Senior management will cheerfully glad-hand you into thinking that they give a care about what your concerns are. They don't do anything about those concerns when it relates to your happiness as an employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're really not that great. Stop acting like it. There are far better places to work and better people to work for.

    Pros

Best reason to work here? If I have to describe a "pro" to working for Rocket Lawyer it would be that employees are allowed to wear jeans to work. That's the only pro to working here, literally. And "beer fridays", yes, once a month the company provides and serves beer to all its employees.

    Cons

Customer servicw isnt considered priority and unfortunately the number of customer complaints never ends. It's a hostile work environment, favoritism from supervisors to select employees, they have an inadequate staff of management who has unrealistic performance expectations from the reps. The leads have no experience and don't receive any management training. Mis-communication is ongoing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, they're the ones dealing with customers and know what the public wants. Customer service should be a priority.

I worked at Rocket Lawyer full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Hardly any work. At least, in my team. If you liked being paid more than you deserve (or don't care about it at all), then great. Otherwise, you'll be discontent with the money-work gap.
People are by and large nice. There are some very smart people and I kept wondering what they were ever doing here.
Close to BART and a ton of eating places. Great location near Embarcadero. Loved the feeling of working in SF.

    Cons

    Hopeless PTO policy.
Politics like it was an <insert troubled nation's name> government.
    Not much work.
Lot of smart people began leaving to go to bigger/better companies.
The people who are here, come across as being content with what they have when it is clearly visible that they're nowhere near their full potential. It does not, therefore, inspire much confidence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better benefits. Improve/increase transparency. Cut out the BS politics.

Friendly coworkers, great work-life balance, group and department activities to boost teamwork. This is company that is genuinely interested in helping you become the best you can be. Great insurance benefits and PTO policy.

    Cons

Very department focused, it would be great to see all departments come together more often.

I have been working at Rocket Lawyer full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The mission of the company is extremely noble: democratizing access to legal services to individuals, families and small businesses. In addition, there is a very good balance of passion for the company's success and respect for employee personal time.

This is a software company that is trying to change the legal industry from the ground up. The atmosphere is fun because the leadership is passionate about the mission and there is a great deal of transparency around the product (everyone is invited to product reviews).

While people are encouraged to work hard, there is a healthy respect for weekends and vacation time (unlimited PTO policy). As long as you are a contributor with a positive attitude, managers understand that you have a life outside of your work.

    Cons

The offices are typical for a software company (open modular desks) ; - nothing too flashy. Benefits are being overhauled right now, so we will wait and see.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more engineers so we can improve the product faster.

    Pros

The company has a good commission structure and very reasonable quota. I've never been in another sales team where so many of the people exceed quota. I really like the team and culture on the sales team, it's a huge part of what has kept me here. There are also opportunities to move into other upper positions at the company if you are a top performer.

    Cons

Selling to small business owners is rewarding, but also challenging at times. You have to be very consistent in your effort levels to be successful in the long run.
