Pros
I find salaries are competitive, good benefits that include pension and matching RRSP's. Management is fair with all employees in my experience. I have had the opportunity to have multiple careers at Rockwell Automation.
Cons
American ownership, Canadian employees are now understanding what it is like to work for a US employer. Company now looking at long term financial impact, instead of retaining experience and dedication. Reorganizations happen frequently, exspecially in sales. Bottom line is more important now than ever. Downsizing is occuring and it is mostly twenty to thirty year veterins. This reduces the long term pension costs in Canada.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop trying to reorganize the company every 1 to 2 years. This leave employees confused as to what direction we are going in. Sales have been reorganized almost every year since 1996. Sales accounts are reshuffled and therefore no true growth can be realized.
Pros
close to home, decent pay.
Cons
incompetent management, little to no recognition for good work, no investment in innovation (IT),
In order for employee's to be more productive, management should focus on streamlining job processes, not ever increasing steps to make up for investments NOT made where they should be (technologies, process improvements).

Pros
Would have said stability until the recent restructuring and downsizing. Now they have become as any other US based multinational, just with a great benefits program.
Cons
Management focus is on shipping $ in the current month and quarter. They do things to meet numbers that make little sense.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop changing the sales organization, which has lead to massive turnover.
Pros
Here in Cambridge ON RA manufactures MV drives and starters which is very interesting products. There is tons of work since they are selling like crazy. There is lots of hands-on work and possibility to get exposed to real work even as a young engineer. There is quite a lot of people that spent their whole career there.
Cons
Horrible pay that reflect local conditions and doesn’t take into consideration bigger cities that area around. Lately there is more of an American approach in firing people with higher salaries, some very valuable people were let go just because of the money they were making. There is a lot of talk about shifting production to Mexico, China and Poland. Long term production might be severely downsized. Long term they will probably be specialty drive manufacturer and support centre. Stupid evaluation system that bonuses are based on put a lot of stress on employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Value people that you have and look at the quality of the service and products you are providing since that is going to bring you less money short term but lots of success long term.
