I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management identifies unique talents and starts you off with exciting and challenging assignments. Lots of choices to switch career paths if desired.

    Cons

Organization is too big and its initially difficult to understand the process.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring young graduates and keep looking towards the future.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great comprehensive benefits package. Five weeks paid vacation a year. 9/80 workweek giving every other Friday off. Tuition assistance. Long term job stability.

    Cons

In a large company, you can feel less like a person than a machine. Often times you hurry up to just to wait.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Winter shut down, the people I worked with, flexible time off, team building, day care building was close to main campus, you could go over to spend time with kids.

    Cons

if you are not part of the inside group, you are not promoted. If you bounce the boat, you may fall out. Management is forced to meet a bottom line, not the best interest of their employees.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees like they are real people and have a family life. People are not chess pieces to be moved around.

    Pros

Good pay, Interesting work, advice to new grads: good place to start, but not stay.

    Cons

Very hard to move up. Becoming more demanding of your time, work-work balance only. Poor Benefits.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was former ARINC employee and Rockwell Collins employee now. RC is taking care of employee better than ARINC but there no doubt that each corporate is looking at their own benefits more than anything. I like to work here because everything is well defined and organized. You have have every other friday off by working 1HR extra for 8 days ( Alternate Works Schedule ) which is great

    Cons

1- Salay is not really good here because there is a salary struct with Min. med and max salary based on your education, job experience and the type of job that you are doing. You cannot jump high from your current position. 2- "Big Boys Club" ( Upper management ) people are getting involved very low level implementation details with out having enough knowledge. 3- Sometimes Rockwell Collins is doing very sharp and unexpected 90 degree right turn .. such as closing eEnabled project after 7 years of development in a day. 4- There is not quality control on placing people into correct position. There are so many senior people placed in wrong position in this company

    Advice to Management

Stay away from thing that are out of your expertise

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, opportunity to travel, opens doors when applying to jobs outside companies!

    Cons

If you are really good at your job you will passed over for promotion. Mediocre people seem to get promoted. When asked about this management appears to indicate that if I was promoted the department would suffer.

    Advice to Management

Stop outsourcing to Mexico, it's not less expensive! Management roles are not given to the most qualified!

    Pros

Company is well diversified between government and private sector. Company is very involved in community programs, health and green initiatives. They spend a lot of money on R&D and are not managing for short term profit.

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of "That's the way we have always done it."

    Advice to Management

You need to invest in IT if you want to stay on top in our industry.
