a bit crazy, but a great experience overall.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe people are bright and believe in what they're doing. The employees are treated well, and are given a lot of responsibilities, from the ground up. The PA location is fantastic if you have a family, too.

ConsAs with many magazines, things can get disorganized and egos can come into play. The politics made for some bad decisions.

If you want a job and don't care how they treat you...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Emmaus, PA

ProsI worked with some really great people. They have a free fitness facility in Emmaus. The benefits were okay.

ConsLots of layoffs, I believe that led to paranoia about losing jobs, even senior management. People who are below do the work don't have much say in anything that happens there. Had several people take my ideas and run with them as they were their own - very frustrating. No accountability or responsibility, no reviews are based on performance. Little opportunity for advancement unless someone "likes" you.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, they want to feel that they make a difference, give them credit where credit. Layoffs happen, let it go.

    Happy with the status quo.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexible hours, great crew of people to work with though many are overworked. Easy to take on new challenges if you are so inclined.

ConsPay scale could be higher for position but commensurate with community at large.

Good way to try on editorial

    Intern (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsHad the opportunity to work in editorial department at a major national magazine, as an intern, several things I wrote were published in print and online, which was exciting.

ConsOften seemed that editors were unsure about what to do with a full time intern. Lots of time spent finding my own tasks. Often spent hours working on certain writing projects only to have them scrapped after completion because they had just run something similar, etc

Advice to Senior Managementmore structure needed for interns

    Great people...Great company

    Executive Assistant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsVery friendly environment! Management really cares about employees and shows it in many ways. There is a lot of respect for work/life balance. Lots of perks including fitness classes in our yoga studio during lunch or after work, charity events, discounts etc. Most importantly, Rodale's values are as important today as they were when the company was founded. Great place to work!

ConsI have no cons to discuss.

Beauty Intern - Women's Health Magazine

    Beauty Intern (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    Pros• Very open office environment
    • I had a lot of opportunity to attend events and speak with people I wouldn't normally have access to at the intern level.
    • I was given a lot of responsibility
    • Friendly staff across the board

ConsI feel like the company as a whole is great, and this could have been mostly my position, but many times I found that I had nothing to do, even after asking around the office.
