I have been working at Roehl Transport full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Roehl is dedicated to safety and maintaining their equipment. They will work with drivers who request additional training; such as backing and tight quarters maneuvering. They will also work to try and get you home when you request.

The pay seems competitive with other companies and the dispatchers (aka fleet managers) are generally helpful and considerate.

    Cons

I drive a flatbed and find that the amount of time it takes for load securement and tarping is not worth the additional two cents per mile. Roehl expects their drivers to follow their routing, but the process is defective. The driver receives a list of cryptic instructions through the truck PC. This route is supposed to be transcribed to paper and then followed. The truck is equiped with a GPS that the company can use to determine where you are.

Trying to read these instructions in heavy traffic and/or in the dark is dangerous. Why they do not take advantage of the existing technology and tell the driver when s/he needs to turn and which lane to be in would be a great improvement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better advantage of the GPS technology to help drivers instead of using it to ding drivers when they get off route.

The quality of some of the trainers that new drivers are hooked up with leaves something to be desired. I cannot say more on this forum without revealing who I and the trainer I am speaking are...

    Pros

Invests a lot in their employees, continuously improves to make things better, warm and friendly environment, very focused on company initiatives and goals.

    Cons

The majority of the employees you physically do not see everyday because of the nature of their job (over the road truck driver). Challenges of communication and logistics at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to live our values and support one another for continued success.

    Pros

Good equipment and maintained. Always seems on Dedicated that there's freight that needs to be moved.

    Cons

Hard time getting home, and spend time with the family. For me it's been a bit of a struggle, but I love the paychecks each week... Can't have both here it seems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rick should have to meet his employees, I have never met him and obviously couldn't pick him out in a crowd.

I have been working at Roehl Transport full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Family owned, values-based company. People who care and exhibit passion toward their work. Investment in training and development. Open, positive culture. Accessibility of leadership. Ability to make changes quickly.

    Cons

Perfection is not a realistic expectation. The mark of a good company is not whether or not issues or problems exist. Are people willing to listen and make changes to improve things. My experience in this area has been positive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the company grows, don't lose the open culture and personal touches that have made you successful.
