Great place to start a career, but too many glass ceilings and growth obstacles to stay for very long.

I worked at Rogers Communications full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Compensation was good, most folks great to work with, lots of different directions to develop some skills and expertise, however, stretching beyond your area or domain had its issues.

    Cons

Work-life balance was not easy to achieve as demands to perform were high. Certain obstacles and a grade-school type behaviour really detracted from what could have been a great environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Very senior management needs to clean out some of the old ways and groups if they intend to succeed in a dynamic business that needs speed of delivery as a key attribute.

I have been working at Rogers Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a good benefits package and for someone working in media this is one of the top places hiring and expanding.

    Cons

There are constant cuts funding the expansion. This means a lot of supervising staff has been cut. In a time of quick expansion more detailed oversight would be needed to properly lay the groundwork. The opposite is happening here. The whole operation sometimes feels like cats running in opposite directions with no one even attempting to herd them. Managers have routinely quit. Our staffing looks like swiss cheese and people are laid off regularly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a sound, supportive, and motivating structure. Other large companies know how to motivate their employees.

    I worked at Rogers Communications

    Pros

Great people, great benefits, great pay structure. Ongoing training and team building exercises. Fun annual sales meetings in off-site locations.

    Cons

The cons of working in the telecom industry and that of course includes the other top three carriers is the "waiting for the tap on the shoulder" letting you know that your services are no longer required along with 200 - 400 of your co-workers at least twice a year.

Former Employee - Volunteer in Mississauga, ON (Canada)

I worked at Rogers Communications part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They allow opportunities for learning new skills in TV production including technical work (camera, editing).

    Cons

This is beneficial for people who don't require income to live since it doesn't pay (it's volunteer).
But everyone knows that going into it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps, let people assist in producing (developing segments, stories, ideas, creative writing outside of technical skills).
