Back in the 80s a real "good ol' boy company."

I worked at Rohr full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid very well, good medical. I was there from 1981 to 1984 so maybe this review isn't relevant. Back then planners were recently upgraded to manufacturing engineers. Most companies wouldn't give that title without an actual engineering degree. I think that's one reason they had to reorganize. Very few salaried people were let go unless they were real screwups. I'm sure with Goodrich it's a very different company now.

    Cons

Too many non-professionals in managenment. Like it said on the bathroom stall wall "don't ever say the word 'change' ", lol! We had this paperwork system back then so complicated the even the people who had been there 40 years had a hard time understanding it! One of the biggest gripe back then is they wouldn't promote from within. I wonder if that's changed.

    I worked at Rohr

    Pros

Interesting work at times. Great location. Most of your coworkers are nice, helpful and fun to work around and socialize with outside of work.

    Cons

Depending on who you work for, you might be micromanaged to death. You are not allowed to do anything other than what your lead tells you to do, including doing things wrong. Tremendous amount of pressure at times. No chance of moving up or advancing unless you want to put in lots of free time or you happen to be a British citizen. Management is full of non-Americans and they really do not know how to manage. The worst management and leadership that I have seen in my experience. Ever. Tons of non value added processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to England, Canada or India and give some Americans a chance. Stop micromanaging. Figure out which leads should not be leading others and transfer them to a different area.

    I worked at Rohr

    Pros

Promote work-life balance, if you have a reasonable boss. 9/80 schedule. Cafeteria onsite, and 2 gyms.

    Cons

The company promotes diversity, however the only people that really get promoted or are given opportunity are either blonde, or related to management. Very unfair, old school environment. Human Resources are extremely difficult to deal with. The buildings are old and rat infested.

I have been working at Rohr

    Pros

It's in San Diego and they are designing some cool new structures.

    Cons

A lot of people in senior positions that don't know what they are doing. They also don't like to listen to experienced engineers they have brought in from the rest of the industry that have more experience than them.

    Pros

8 hour work days, and fiendly co workers. Being involved in manufacturing enviroment can be interesting at times.

    Cons

No communication about internal job oppertunities, Bad office enviroment, no windows and out dated amenities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a reason 56% of us strongly disagreed with the statement that we are compensated fairly for the work we perfor in the culture survey.

I have been working at Rohr

    Pros

People are great. Diversity of personel. Opportunities to learn new things. Good compensation. Positive environment.

    Cons

Sometimes departments are understaffed, so you don't always get the opportunity to spend as much time on a project as you would like to. Work load can be intense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more opportunities for promotion. Often times hard workers just get more work because they are handling a large load. Fairness of work distribution is overlooked.
