    Pros

A large company with significant international presence. Opportunities to work in many different disciplines/functions. A fantastic brand name - which is a major reason why folks want to work with the company. Engineering excellence is a hallmark of the companies psyche. Not too much oversight (in general) as to whether you are doing the hours - more focus that you are achieving your objectives. However this very much depends on the particular manager that you report to. Some real interesting/characters work at RR so there is plenty of opportunities to interact with folks from various backgrounds.

    Cons

Not the best pay/perks compared with others in the same space - but folks seem to remain there regardless. Leadership had, until the last 12 months, been great. Maybe due to financial pressures - resulting in panic measures - leadership has 'lost its way'. For new prospects wanting to join the company - I would advise that you must make your mark and take control of your destiny otherwise you will be sidelined. Workplace environment is mediocre at best. General apathy across the patch results in a relatively mundane/boring environment. It is the newcomers that want to generate 'excitement' - but become disappointed when the population remains complacent and happy with things the way they are.

    Advice to Management

Performance reviews, followed by forced distribution, is an absolute insult to the workforce, the company and to any organization that professes to 'value its employees'. Stop it - other world class companies have so learn from them. Treat employees with the respect they deserve and allow managers to manage their teams without undue influence. Folks, in general, wake up each day wanting to do a good job - so help them in making that a reality. Regarding office culture - stop beating the 'employee comes first drum' unless you mean that to be the case. Just reflect back upon when you started to work and what your expectations/desires were and see if you now are a solution provider as opposed to a disappointer.

    Pros

There are lots of possibilities to move up and there's always an opportunity for travel.

    Cons

Where do I start? Benefits are not up to par with most other engineering companies. The work environment feels very strict and rigid. 40 hour weeks are mandatory with no chance for OT unless it's mandatory then you'll be doing 60 or 70 hour weeks. Unless you're willing to travel or become management, there's no upward mobility. Terrible training program, lousy benefits, work environment is not conducive to happy employees and raises are small if at all. That said, it's fine for your first job out of college so that you can get your foot in the door.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees! Offer more flexible schedules and allow OT to an extent. More PTO. Technical and professional training are musts. Help me help you!

    Pros

    Strong business model
Global operations with great mobility options
    Good opportunities for graduates

    Cons

    Tired and slow moving organisation
Strong and difficult barriers between functions/departments
Very poor HR function, more interested in cost cutting than employee satisfaction

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving the experience for your own employees to retain talent - don't leave RR employees off the stakeholder map!

    Competitive salary in aerospace market.

    Cons

Foreign ownership influences on work procedures are cumbersome and slow down work efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Be open to flexible work conditions in the agile environment that RR created. Allow individuals the opportunity to work from home a couple of days per week. You would be surprised to see a boost in productivity.
