I have been working at Rooms To Go full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company pays for overtime...The store management was very supportive and understanding...Full benefits after 90 days

    Cons

there was no training for required duties, they just throw you into it and expect miracles. There were several times that vacation time was taken away based on "company needs" and no compensation was given. Worked alone in the office for several weeks open to close with no day off, did a job that I was not paid for. When I was finally promoted I was told by my regional manager that it would be "financially worth my while"...i got a $0.50 raise. Store managers were severely micro-managed to the point where there were several very busy days where there was no management available for sales, office or customer needs. TOO MUCH STRESS..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the managers run the store. Provide proper training to all managers.

I worked at Rooms To Go full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay, Great benefits, and Some jobs give bonuses.

    Cons

ZERO communication, spineless supervisors, and enforced unwritten rules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to communicate. Every rule should be written down. A supervisor is supposed to lighten the blow between management and employees. Someone needs to learn to listen to employees the managers do not always know best.

I worked at Rooms To Go full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Many long time employees since they have good benefits. The sales staff come and go as they please. The managers are not allowed to manage the staff.

    Cons

The managers are micro managed. The bonuses for the managers are issued with no structure it is whatever the corporate feels like doing... No structure to depend on. Not stable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some structure and let your managers do the managing. This orlando region could be doing so much more with structure and a real leader. The ceo should take a good look at this region in Orlando. The people who work there want leadership

I worked at Rooms To Go full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You make good money- min $50K/Yr as a Sales Associate as long as you hit your minimum of $83,500 Volume per month. There is lots of traffic and customers that purchase here due to prices; style of furniture and 0% non accruing interest and extensive advertising that RTG does. Your co workers are like family: you see each other more than you see you're family at home and you get into fights over stealing customers and then you go back to being somewhat civil. Another plus: the mattress reps and sometime the company provides food on long holiday work days. The medical benefits are decent as far as what they take out of your checks. Paid holidays, paid vacations get 2weeks/yr. Get an additional day off to use when you work on a holiday which was nice so you didn't have to use a personal day.

    Cons

There's always a bad apple or 2 at each store that causes problems for managers and other co workers. You constantly feel like you are walking on pens and needles (must make sure you do not say certain things in front of certain people that will spin it to get you fired or written up). It is truly every man for himself; doggy dog; high turn over; lots of things you have to familiarize yourself with (beds, mattresses, accessories, fabric & leather protection) and outrageous goals and demands you have to maintain to stay working there. The management staff are not real managers they are micro-managed and told what to do by someone up higher. I've worked with several different managers and all but maybe 1 or 2 have been sociopaths. They are a lot of write-ups and some of them do not even make sense. Very unprofessional and unethical environment to work in. The hours are long (work 12 hr shifts sometimes days in a row). You do not get 2 days off in a row unless you use a personal day. RTG becomes your life and all you talk about. When making complaints to HR you have to get multiple people involved for things to happen; otherwise that person or manager gets a slap on hand. The managers treat you like children and all they care about is hitting their numbers because it can cost them their jobs. If you like DRAMA, this is your place; something shady and scandalous always happening!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start making managers go through test before hiring them to see if they have customer service skills and if they are a people person instead of just a numbers person. Once become manager they should go through training on managing others. Give your managers more freedom to do things without having to contact regional to do things such as give away a free people. As far as write-ups: I believe in critiquing individuals to help them improve but telling a person:" Im writing you up for not having enough add-ons or volume, from looking at your numbers you aren't going to make it this month, sign here, is not helping anyone! if anything they have to constantly fight to get that out of their heads so that they can concentrate on selling so they do not get fired. They use to promote within and recently started promoting outside. Not much room for advancement.
