I have been working at Rose Medical Center full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great learning environment, lots of opportunity to take classes to grow in your skill set, nice clean facility in the cherry creek area.

    Cons

Lots of turn over due to lack of needed staffing, small pay and high benefit premiums, Management not able to accommodate needed schedule changes do to lack of staffing. The phrase "Welcome to Rose" is used by staff whenever you have a conflict in some way that is not getting the expected attention and/or results.

  2.

    Poor staffing; horrible software.

I have been working at Rose Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff are friendly and adaptable to stressful situations; have made some good friends there.

    Cons

Short staffing makes for a stressful day; leaves care providers cutting corners, feeling rushed and stressed and providing substandard care at times. For this nurse at least; leaves me feeling guilty at the end of the day even though it's out of my control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a day with a nurse. Shadow a nurse from shift beginning to end. Eat when they eat. Go to the bathroom when they do. Your perspective of what's appropriate staffing will change dramatically. Have a nurse show you all the hoops necessary to use Meditech. You will have a new appreciation for how this horribly dated software distracts from patient care.

I worked at Rose Medical Center (less than an year)

    Pros

Because of the small size of the hospital, the staff is able to work together to provide the best possible experience for the patients.

    Cons

The turnover rate in the laboratory was quite high, so I found myself overburdened with covering shifts. There was also the occasional hostility between co-workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep the employees happy!

I have been working at Rose Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The staff is largely made up of long term employees, which is generally a good indicator of job satisfaction. Employee benefits are decent, clientele generally are mid to upper classes.

    Cons

As a publicly held, for profit business model, HCA is doing what one would expect; minimize overhead and maximize volume. This sometimes leads to poor service when staffing levels are sub-optimum, and equipment and software are slow to be updated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a corporate entity, the longevity of HCA and it's hospitals depends on public demand for the brand. Quarterly earnings reports should not be the basis of policy decisions. doing so makes a perceptive volatility that does not breed consumer or staff confidence.

I have been working at Rose Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Investing in the facility, encourages employees to further their education and certifications, good
employee support, top 2 in district for Hospital Corporation of America, top 25 hospital in US.

    Cons

Can demand a lot from employees, especially the nursing core with new requirements and Joint Commission demands

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget the people who make this organization what it is. Value and support the nursing core more by expressing appreciation for what they do.

I have been working at Rose Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great staff
    Some really good physicians
    Central Location

    Cons

    Poor pay for work required
Driven by profit, not patient care
Surgery is king, and if you are not a surgery practice, you don't get any support
Outsourcing everything so what support you get is declining in quality
Really had a cultural connection, lost in money motives
Very poor wellness program for employees
    Constant cuts to benefits
    Rea

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support all practices equally, not giving favor to surgery because that is where you make the money. Try innovative programs and stick with them, don't discard them if you can't see financial return, which is apparently what you do with all programs at Rose.

Training is only about productivity, not personal improvement
    No upward mobility
Negative environment due to profit motive
Continual cuts to salaries, benefits and other forms of compensation
Hospital has lost its' cultural connection
It has become all about HCA's bottom line

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much you can do since you report to HCA , employees will continue to get squeezed.
