    Pros

There is a lot of room for advancement. The company heavily promotes from within.

    Cons

Extremely stingy pay. It's having a huge impact on employee retention. There is a culture of secrecy that makes working more difficult than it has to be.

    Advice to Management

    At least match competitor salaries.

    Pros

Always hiring Fun environment to work at 10% discount is always a plus Develop awesome relationships with customers Trendy merchandised Never bored

    Cons

Opening early , closing late Constantly picking up items customers drop Minimum wage Decrease in hours for part time workers Timed cashier transactions

    Advice to Management

I wish the higher up team had the consideration in highering our pay . It seems like the only way someone's pay is increased is if they were there for 5 plus years . Climbing the ladder shouldn't be as difficult as it is right now at Ross.

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time

    Pros

I love working at Ross. I keep busy for my entire shift and time flies by quickly. All the employees are helpful and very nice.

    Cons

Not much training. You kind of have to jump right in and go with the flow. I haven't seen much written procedures on how to do things like cashiering. But with enough common sense, everything is pretty easy to learn and when you are first learning there is always someone close by to help out.

    Advice to Management

    More hours please ;)

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pros: Getting to learn how to work every position in the store from stock to fitting to cashier/returns. Small staff (this is also a con). During the holidays there were a lot of hours and overtime to be had. As long as you did your job you were mostly left to do your thing... unless upper management was visiting and you were scrutinized for every breath you took.

    Cons

When it's not a holiday season, hours were sparse. Went from full time to barely 15 hours a week. Small staff, while good to know everyone, also leads to catty schoolgirl drama which can make for and uncomfortable work situation when even the supervisors and managers are a part of it. Pay is rock bottom minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Don't get involved in employee personal drama. Keep the workplace professional.

    Pros

Ross has a tremendous amount of growth planned which provides career movement for employees. Ross is a very responsible company and is one you could spend your entire career at. Ross culture values hard work and flexibility.

    Cons

Ross is conservative in the decisions it makes about changes etc. and as a result, projects and initiatives may take more time to complete than at other companies. Ross culture takes some time to adjust to, including socialization needed to complete projects etc., project changes, changes to priorities etc.

    Pros

Learn how to run an extremely busy location ( specific to my store not company as a whole)

    Cons

Business model is created to run a store up to a cretin sales amount but is not applicable to stores that more than triple that sales number therefore the goals are not able to be transferred verbatim it needs to re evaluated for the stores that are so far from the model numbers to be fair since those metrics are used to determine bonus numbers.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and appreciate when people go above and beyond for the team. and learn to be honest and not talk behind peoples back people hear things and lose trust for the leaders.
