Pros
Flexible time, considers those with families, superindentant shows he truly cares for students and staff. Great pay and benefits. Most people enjoy their jobs.
Cons
For paras it's hard to move to different campuses unless you know someone there or you have the same position
Advice to Senior Management
Continue doing the great job your doing. I am very proud to be an employee and parent of students attending RRISD schools.
Pros
Friendly environment
Supportive community
Fair pay
Stable job
Cons
Benefits are getting worse
Very limited career paths for advancement
Pros
Great teachers and students, excellent principals, support systems and opportunity.
Cons
Government mishandling of moneys will soon mean teachers who are non-core will take on an extra class in place of a planning period... This used to be a ~$6000 reimbursement to do so but will be standard now. Also, in the coming year stipends for all extra work (like UIL coaching, club sponsors, and the like) may be dropped and still expected. Courses that are "CTE" (Tech Ed) are application courses in which students apply what they learn in core courses. As such, they should be given the same or better priority than just core courses but our system is seemingly only "teaching to the test" and not worrying about application. I'm worried for the future of our kids.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all teachers, librarians, etc. equally as they are all necessary to give our kids the best education possible. We must invest in our future or we will keep falling behind other nations in education. We need to run our schools more like a business as well... Setting up contracts with suppliers that cost 25% over market prices is ridiculous.
Pros
great pay, great people, love it here
Cons
just like anywhere, some employees are not doing their fair share and others have to pick up the slack
Advice to Senior Management
hire more qualified people
Pros
Most schools were in very good order. I didn't have any issues with any campus. Most teachers and staff were friendly and very helpful.
Cons
It is a school, so no matter how hard you work, you get paid the same as others who may not be as good as you. Subfinder isn't very good. Online it will show available jobs and then you click them and it says they are under review by another user.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider switching your sub system to aesop. It cordinates with other districts like hutto and georgetown. It also is much easier to use and doesn't posts jobs that are unavailable.
Pros
The people at RRHS were great. The teachers and staff were all friendly and welcoming. Administration did not hover around classrooms, but this could be a downside because some teachers needed hovering. Administration was student-friendly, but this also could be a downside as they tried to be buddies with students.
Cons
The students at RRHS were ill-behaved, and administration was very permissive. Students were not afraid of doing wrong because they new the consequences would never be grave. Administration was also not very organized, and professional development activities at the school were a mess.
Advice to Senior Management
Enforce district rules and policies. Hold your students accountable for their actions. Defend your teachers from parent or student attacks. Plan your faculty meetings meticulously before holding them.
Pros
Close to home, having hours similar to children's hours at school, being off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter Holidays, Spring Break, and Summer, great people to work with, giving back to my own community.
Cons
Too many undefined rules and regulations, ease at which parents can push school employees around, indecisiveness of administrators, and complaining teachers. The uncertainty leads to much stress and fear of doing what is right when it is hard or goes against the stockholders opinions.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't be so afraid of the parent constituents and threat of lawsuits. Do what is right led by professional training and judgment and let the chips fall where they may. Have a backbone and trust your staff or get rid of them.
