    Pros

Insurance was good. Paid training. The good old buddy system is abundant, so, if you know some one or married into someones family, or from Quitman, Ms. You could become part of the click. Affectionately refereed to as the 601 club.

    Cons

Trust no one, you do not know who is related to who. Internal clicks exist. Demand too much from employees on the rigs. Safety is number one until it interferes with operations or the rig managers budget. .

    Advice to Management

Practice your own ethics training, I continually complained that written safety policies were not being followed and maintenance parts were being cut from requisitions. I was terminated seven days prior to the two year bonus pay out. Not one penny was I paid. Was that ethical? When employees are treated poorly..... that will bleed over to customer relations. Surely the Rowan brothers are rolling in their graves!

    Pros

    Good benefits.
    Competative salary.
    Expanding fleet.
    Paid training.

    Cons

Rowan must have the most racist employees I have ever met in the oil field.
The management have are safety concious until budget gets in the way.
They expect a mile from its employees but wont give an inch.
Not the company I thaught it was needs to remove useless uneducated unqualified persons from the maintenance dept, crane ops do not make good Electricians.

    Advice to Management

Loose the buddy system for hiring and promoting. Get some real talent.

  3. This place used to be a great place to work. Now they try to hard to become just like Transocean, which is not a good thing.

    Pros

    Team mindset from rig personnel.

    Cons

People in the office creating no value added work to offshore employees.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that you built this company with good people. This is Rowan, not Transocean.

    Pros

Decent Salary and decent work hours.

    Cons

Lack of true leadership in several departments. More managers than actual leaders.

    Advice to Management

Rowan Companies need to train their managers how to be leaders and remove unfit managers from their positions. Prior experience needs should be considered when determining positions within the company.

    Pros

Half days Fridays, nine paid holidays and two floating holidays

    Cons

No movement. Upper management is heavy. There's a lack of communication from the Director level on down.

    Pros

Great benefits. Most people are very friendly. Company has plans for growth. CEO is very knowlegeable and professional. Lots of experienced personnel in the company.

    Cons

Tend to be reactive rather than proactive. Need to focus on staffing to meet future demand, rather than just in time staffing.

  8. Rowan has been a very friendly welcoming environment for new and old employees.

    Pros

There is a great chance for personal growth. Human resources will try to move you to a better fitting job if you request a change and they offer many training opportunities.

    Cons

They are currently restructuring after getting a new CEO.

    Pros

Down-to-earth, sensible people working hard to deliver offshore resources. A great team built primarily / historically on merit-based promotions awarded to folks who started at the bottom.

    Cons

None, really. They treated me well and provided the opportunity for a self-directed Internship, for which I am very grateful.

    Advice to Management

Recommend focusing more on military veteran recruitment and retention.

    Pros

This career is setting me off on a course for great success at an early age.
I have been given the ability to travel the world and work with people from all walks of life.
Currently I am working under a great leader who expects a spirit of excellence and is an example to all that surround them.

    Cons

There is not always an adequate amount of time between projects and an unsure time that is known to be away from loved ones. Long stints of travel are expected and could be resolved with a backup and scheduled time to travel home.

    Advice to Management

Give more time between projects or hire more project employees. Allot adequate time to plan for an upgrade. This is not easy as Operations change day to day but it puts a hardship on the company when work needs to be done with an unclear scope of work expected to be completed in an already short amount of time.

    Pros

The organizational structure allows for good access to management. The company is expanding drastically and the management is vibrant and always looking for improvement.

    Cons

HR support and setup is lacking in many fronts. Although a company with more than 70 years of operations, Managements systems are quite behind times.

    Advice to Management

Standardize pay structure internationally instead of categorizing region wise.
