    Good place to teach.

I worked at Rowan University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

I taught as an adjunct in the RTF department. Not only did they actually live up to the Radio, Television and Film of RTF (many universities do not offer radio), but they were really concerned with the craft of making. Theory has it's place but when a student can't make a CD/DVD when finishing an RTF program, then something is really wrong. It was my first time teaching in NJ and quite different from the places I had taught as an adjunct in the Philadelphia area.

    Cons

Many of the students are holding enormous debt - much more than they should for a state-type school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The administration really needs to consider their priorities - teaching does not seem to be one of them.

I have been working at Rowan University part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Relaxed conditions, based on class schedules, easy to follow calendar plan

    Cons

Things can be frantic at times during laboratory classes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know what you need ahead of time and that you have it so that you don't get into the lab and realize its not there when the class needs it.

I have been working at Rowan University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some phenomenal people work here—intelligent, interesting, dedicated. State benefits are still head and shoulders above what most private employers offer.

    Cons

Salaries are nowhere near what can be earned outside of civil service. Poor performers and bad attitudes continue to be roadblocks for change agents and act as a poison to the culture here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Historical failure to address poor performers throughout all levels of the organization demotivates high performing employees and breeds mediocrity.

I have been working at Rowan University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a great opportunity to network with a lot of powerful people and to learn all the small tasks that it takes to run a growing University.

    Cons

I'm sure like most schools, it is a little bit disorganized especially because there is so much going on.
