I worked at Royal Bank of Canada full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The training is pretty relaxed and very encouraging, it helps you to understand the products they want you to focus on. It did help me grow, provided a lot of knowledge in terms of banking products and customer service/sales. The hours are okay, 11-8, it's a bit frustrating at times finishing later in the evening then most people, but starting later has its benefits too.

    Cons

At times it can be a bit broad and it needs to improve on the amount of time you actually practice, as the theory really didn't compare to the real thing. Also the managers are really friendly, but often in terms of actually helping in one on one situations, they handle it poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider making the training either longer or more focused on actual practice as oppose to theory, even though the theory training was fun and helpful, parts of it could've advanced faster, or benefited from more practice. Maybe even consider having practice sessions before finishing, so people can see what it's like.

    Pros

If you are a 100% "YES BOSS" all the time, then this is your place to work for your whole life. Good luck !

    Cons

Absolutely insane micro-management stressful classic style, very cocky coaches who think they know everything inside out on the sales side but zero human approach skills. One on one Feedback is not objective, very subjective indeed. If you are an ambitious person who think a bit outside the box only once in a while, then avoid this place because they will make sure to destroy this skill. Look out for yourself, there are tons of other banks that offer much better fair work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management must coach their team leads / compliance officers once in a while mysteriously to see what really happens on the floor.

I have been working at Royal Bank of Canada full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Training is excellent, sometimes the trainer can be a bit excessive about policies however you do learn everything you need for the job. The building and work environment is quite nice and clean and friendly staff for the most part.

    Cons

Breaks and lunches are too strict, and schedule needs a bit of work. Too much time is focused on whether you are at work and not enough is spent looking at the work you perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the work of employees rather than the disciplinary actions you can take against them. Sometimes a longer break is necessary, emergencies do happen.
