Perhaps the worst work experience of my life.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Stamford, CT

    Pros* Nice building
    * Some perks
    * Some decent hardworking people

Cons* Gossipy / backstabbing behavior is encouraged
    * Transfers between departments are shunned
    * Don't end up on anyone's hit list... you'll be gone before you can say "haggis"

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a good look at who's managing the place. You'll find the inmates are running the asylum.

Worst work experience of my life... No Joke!!!

    Team Leader (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsStarting salary was very aggressive & competitive.
    Good training program.

ConsDirector & VPs (i.e. Management). Talk about incompetent. Decisions are not based on performance. Rather, they are made on pure emotion with no logic or backing. I have never been treated so poorly in my life by an employer. The whole Management team, starting at the top, have their head-up their a@#es.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a new job as an Analyst in a dark basement far far away.

    I wouldn't work here again

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsGreat work/life balance. For the most part, very nice people in the Salt Lake City office.

ConsIncompetent and impotent management that spawns from the very top. They do an excellent job a creating anxiety in the workplace and encouraging you to wonder if you'll loose your job - though not because of performance but because of consolidation or cutting or because they believe in patronizing their employees. If one outperforms, outpaces and outlearns colleagues, upper management will not do anything about it. No meritocratic structure.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't breath anxiety into your employees and when you promise raises, make sure you can deliver. You need to find a better way to keep and promote top talent. Your rats are jumping ship.

Just work, (be content that you have a job, be quite, oh…and please work a little more)

    Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsGood starting pay and good experience for your next job.

Cons2 years with no pay raise or bonus. Most of my co-workers feel like you just need to do your job, make no mistakes. That said very few have any incentive to do more as there is no pay incentive to do so,...and the boss knows that, so he will ask you to do more... in a nice British way.

Advice to Senior ManagementI know the Queen owns us, but please share some of the wealth from our labors.

Good entry IB role, but poor career advancement opportunities leading to exodus of good young talent

    Client Service Manager (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsIt was a good entry role into Investment Banking, and the work-life balance is one of the best around (probably too good!)

ConsPoor career advancement opportunities led to an exodus of good young talent and has led to an ageing workforce. Still struggling to break out of banking crisis.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess changes in the hierarchy and a reduction in the number of levels - too many chiefs, not enough Indians couldn't be more appropriately used.

    Lack of clear direction

    Too Specific (Current Employee)
    Stamford, CT

ProsGood name to have on your resume
    Good professionals, coworkers

    ConsDwindling bonuses
Dependency on UK Tax Payers' sensitivity
The bank is driving talented people and key SMEs away

Advice to Senior ManagementIf I say this, I could be identified, so I won't say it until I am somewhere else.

    Don't recommend

    Accountant (Former Employee)
    Bridgeport, CT

ProsVery large international company, lots of room to move around to other opportunities. Many friends were able to be relocated from Connecticut to Atlanta within the companies.

ConsVery bearucratic, back stabbing to get to the top. Typical big company corporate culture where you can't speak up against your manager without your job being on the line even if what you had to say would help improve things.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
