Loved the experience, the places, the adventures; hated learning what corporate America is all about (I'm American!).

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsYour fellow coworkers are amazing - unfortunately - they have no control over the work environment. If you have a position that travels then you will see many places for next to nothing.

ConsThe people in charge of the company could care less about their employees. They have no ethics, principles, or morals. You are merely just a body filling a position and nothing more. 10 years ago this was a great company to work for. Not so much anymore. It's just about profit now.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of cleaning house by getting rid of a few people in VP levels and below - you need to clean house starting at levels much higher. Start with the very top layer - the CEO and those types. That is when you will see drastic change. The company has tried cleaning out the ranks several times over the last 10 years and it always ends up in same place. It's not working. It's one PR disaster after another. Stock prices are stagnant whereas other company stock prices are soaring (Starbucks anyone???).

Not the best place to work for consultant

    Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Miramar, FL

ProsSalaries are paid on time - there are some nice people working there

Consmany times you will know that your contract will be renewed 2 days before the due date.
They also through the impossible projects on the hands of the consultants and you will hear frequently that you are being very well paid and it's expect you will perform much better than even their own employees.
A lot of the defects you will be expected to fix in a few hours, even thought, when you look at the history on their Quality Control Application you will see a long history of developers taking days to fix, YES -THE SAME DEFECT - AND THEY WERE NEVER FIXED!!! A lot of back and forth with QA - and many times - people won't be able to tell you what is the expected behavior of the module you are fixing - and yet - somehow you are expected to fix in a few hours because you are a rock star software developer.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease respect the consultants - at least giving them 2 weeks notice prior to contract renew - Get your act together and be clear about the projects and the defects that are given to consultants - at least - make sure there are people that can clarify the business rules behind it

Amazing experiences for young or up and coming single professionals.

Head Sound and Light Technician (Former Employee)

ProsTravel. Destinations. Meeting and working with people from almost every single country on earth. Opportunities to try and experience things you would never have thought of.

ConsPay. Large corporate structure. Slow response to requests. Strict rules. Many different side jobs and safety training. No days off.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize talent and treat them well. Turnover is an enemy and a headache.

Nothing more than a false image

    Revenue Management Analyst (Former Employee)
    Miami, FL

ProsAmazing ships and nice headquarters facilities with a large on-site fitness center (almost free for employees! fantastic fitness instructors too!!)

    Decent benefits

Pretty easy work; almost impossible to get fired due to the company being terrified of another lawsuit.

ConsExtremely "political" organization. Hiring and promoting decisions are not based on merit, but on who you know. Often, the attractive single girls with limited experience get promoted simply because they shamelessly flirt with managers even though their assigned sailings are doing poorly. Also, in quarterly meetings with senior management, they joke about creating summer internships for their own kids instead of hiring more qualified interns or part-timers who have a genuine interest to join our company.

Staff turnover in my department is terrible. All the great, hard-working analysts either transfer to other departments or leave the company after getting tired of not being recognized.

Everyone is very nice at the surface, but they will backstab you the second you aren't around to face your attackers.

Meetings are a waste of time because no one listens to each other and instead it is all about showing off who is in power.

Most people mix business with pleasure resulting in odd, unprofessional team dynamics despite the company's HR claim that we have the best culture. HR makes it a common practice to post fake positive reviews on this site and others to create a perception of being a wonderful company without any serious problems.

Lousy, overpriced cafeteria food and it is the only place where you can buy food at the Port of Miami.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to fairly recognize your employees on merit. Fire managers and directors who have created long lines of corruption.

    Hard work, but fun

    Youth Staff (Former Employee)
    Miami, FL

ProsMore fun to work on than some other cruise lines. Quite a lot of freedom for the entertainment team who have a "staff" ranking.

ConsThe various nationalities who are often department specific don't mix as much as would be beneficial. Also the hierarchy can be frustrating at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage more interdepartmental activities that encourage actual conversation, rather than just parties where people mix with their own teams.

    Very good experience.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, decent pay and great co-workers. The best cruise line in the industry. The company is very well engaged with their employees.

ConsToo many structural changes in a short period of time. I had 4 bosses in 2 years. Too much work for one person.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry not to make so many structural changes. Employees need time to get used to their new boss.

    Exciting brand to represent...

    Director (Former Employee)
    Miami, FL

ProsIt's an exciting brand that's constantly growing and innovating. You are always challenged to continue to do more and make sure you are thinking of things differently

ConsThe cons for working at Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD would be the work life balance, there is none! Also there have been lay offs for the past couple of years and if would seem the executive team would manage human resource growth better so they would not have to do layoffs so often.

ProsMeet a great variety of people. Travel to some amazing and unusual places.

ConsA lot of hard work, long hours, minimum living arrangements.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider working hours and day off allotment
